Suggestions on Crate for New Puppy Just wanted to get everyone's suggestion on what the best crates are for puppies. I would like to get one purchased before getting a new puppy. Thanks! |
I'm not a big fan of crates, I used an expen instead. :) |
I personally like the wire crates best for at home and a smaller, travel crate for in the car. Lucy's wire crate has a soft pad that came with it . . another blanket in there she can curl up on . . and then we lay a blanket over part of the top so it's more like a den. She doesn't spend much time in there though. |
I have this crate PetEdge: MidWest Life Stages Double-Door Folding Crates and this ex-pen PetEdge: MidWest Gold Exercise Pens w/Door I used the crate to house break and crate train morgan. I used the divider to make the crate smaller so that she only had enough room to stand up, turn around, and lay down in. She had a nice comfy bed in there and a water bottle attached to the side. as she got better about holding it i gradually would make the crate space bigger until she had the whole thing. Then she graduated to the full ex-pen. |
I only use the crate because I've had Rhett go over the top of the ex-pen. This is the one I have Precision Pet - Detail . It only has a door on the end, so it kind of limits placement, but it does come with the divider which is handy when going from puppy to bigger dog. I should add that the dogs are never in there for more than an hour or two. If I had to crate for longer, I would block off the bathroom just so there was more room. |
at first we used a infants playpen. once Hammer was big enough to jump it, we just got a wire Petmate crate. Lots of blankies and a pillow makes his house a home. He loves it! |
