safe chew toys Hi. I am new here and would love to know what you give your Yorkies to chew on. I have a 15 month old Yorkie (Annie) who has recently developed a strong chewing desire. ..last night she chewed the strap off my leather shoe and ate it. I have a small Kong that I stuff, a "bone" Kong that I stuff the ends and the rubbery, nibbed NylaBones which she loves. We also give her raw carrot pieces from time to time. Rawhide only lasts a short while as once it gets soft I take it from her so she doesn't get it stuck in her throat. My old Yorkie wasn't a chewer after she lost her puppy teeth, so I am at a loss as to safe things to give Annie. Also I don't want to make her fat with consumable chew foods. Thank you. |
Great question! Ziva is 14 months and still chews everyday. I haven't found the "best" thing yet. I just bought a "busy buddy" bristle bone w/ gnawhide treat refills by Premier it was $6 at pet supermarket with refill treats at $2.49- way less than online... It keeps her busy for about 30 minutes but I don't know how long it will really last... We also buy baby toys at yardsales very cheap, they hold up well and are very washable. Last week we cut strips off an old fleece blanket and tightly wove them into a "keychain" (like the kids make at camp with plastic lanyard strips)You can hide little kibble between the weaving... |
We have A LOT of baby toys. They are very durable, and well, safe. Hammer loves pacifiers, and rattles. All of which were adopted from my niece once she out grew them. |
Levi's does love his Kong. Instead of rawhide, I give him bully sticks (100% digestible, unlike rawhide). He has a few harder, rubbery, kong-like toys for chewing, but prefers softer toys to chew/tug/toss around. His FAVORITE toys are Skineez, which have squeakers and are stuffing-free. |
