Well I know this wasn't exact, but my hubby went to petsmart last nite with Happy and weighed her. At 9 wks she weighs 2.9 lbs. Now her mom is 4 1/2 and her dad is 5. Could she just be going through a growth spurt? I'll love her just the same but really was hoping not to go above 7 lbs with her. LOL! Also I have read some conflicting info. Should I leave food down for her all day! She's a piggy and will eat nonstop if I let her. Or should I keep to feeding her 2 times a day and leaving the water down? Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, I can tell you that I don't leave food down all day...I know others do. If he eats non-stop, I definetly wouldn't, but would feed him 3-4 times a day, just a little at a time. You definetly don't want an overweight Yorkie, their bodies just weren't meant to be that way and it will cause him a lot of health problems down the road. His weight could be that he is a little piggy or he may be a larger one when he grows up. Even with small parents this happens. Aren't they just PRECIOUS at that age?!? :D

When I feed her I notice she eats til her belly almost seems to be about to bust. Should I just cut back on how much food I put down at a feeding? She is almost eating 1 1/2 cups a day of dry food? And she currently gets feed between 7-8 am and 6-7 pm because when she eats like that at nite she seems to have to go pottie a lot during the nite. Thanks ! :animal36

Oh my, that is way too much for such a little belly. :D I can't believe he can eat THAT MUCH! I'd put down about 10 little pieces in the morning and do this about 4 times a day (I'm judging this by the small size that I feed which is a combo of Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul and Puppy Pro Plan). He is pooping excessively because he is eating excessively. Check the feeding chart on the food bag and see how much you should be feeding him. I have 2 4.5 month old pups that will eat everything put down in a heartbeat and one 12 week old puppy that will eat a few pieces and be done. However, fresh water should be available to him at all times. I wouldn't suggest table scraps....and NEVER give him grapes, it could cause kidney failure. Don't hesitate to ask ANY type of question related to your new baby on here, someone will ALWAYS be willing to help :)

Wow thanks! I thought she was eating too much. Little piggy! LOL, but I was worried about hypoglicemia as well. I'll try switching her feeding to 4 times a day smaller amounts to see if she'll get used to not stuffing herself. I also know she belches almost for 30 mins after she is done eating each feeding. Boy did I pick the piggy one. LOL! Thanks again!

My Logan was a big baby too. He's 8lbs at 6months now. At 9 weeks we were feeding him between 3/8 & 1/2 cup of dry food a day. We would feed him a little over an 1/8 of a cup 3 times a day at 7:30, 12:00, and 5:00. At 3 1/2 months we upped him to 3/4 of a cup and at 5months we moved him to just under a cup. Really watch his body. If you are feeding him too little you will see ever bone in his body, if you are feeding him too much he will look somewhat like a little pot bellied pig. You want to be able to just barely see his ribs that's healthy and remember he's a growing boy, but 1 1/2 cups at this age is too much. I have a piggy too that would eat everything if I let him. Remember to figure in treats and scraps when figuring out his daily allowance. We use just a piece of food when he potties has a treat. We also use cherrios sometimes which he really likes.

I'm sorry I said He in my post I didn't realize you had a girl. Also you have a gulper. Logan gulps down his food and then runs over to me and belches in my face. FYI greenies are not recommended for gulpers in case you considered giving these to her for her breath.

No prolem! :D Sorry I kept calling her a "him". You should get a tube of Nutrical and just give her a little dab (pea sized) from your finger in the morning and at night. This will calm your fears of her sugar not being balanced. Pups love it....it smells like peanutbutter and jelly mixed together to me.

Also Logan weighed 3 lbs at 8 wks and 4 lbs at 11 weeks. His parents were 11 & 5 lbs.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if I should give her the Nutrical as well since she is such a good eater, meh. But I'll try it. We also started with giving her treats for pottying but she does so well, I usually just give her lots of praise and kisses. Usually the treats we use for teaching her new commands until she gets used to them. Then we switch to praising her more. I do this because as I have said she is a hearty eater and I don't want to overdue it with tons of excess food and treats. I'll try everyone's suggestions though and see how she does. Thanks!
