How much is too attached? I feel like he is my baby, and I don't let him out of my site- ever. I get paranoid someone will break in to get him, and I don't let anyone hold him except for my mom and I. (which is fine, I guess, he is my baby afterall!) How much is "too attached" to your baby? I'm so paranoid, I just love him so much... |
You're too cute! You'll learn to let go a little as time goes on. It's good that you're hovering over him now to help him learn good manners and good potty habits. But remember, our precious babies need socializing with other people and other dogs too. They're like little kids and sometimes we just have to let them go out and be themselves. I consider myself to be a very careful person with my baby. I will measure every new outing, check it out, be there an hour early so he can acclimate, and I could go on forever, but I won't bore you. When it comes to playing around, I make sure to pick up anything that can hurt him, and let him just run like the mad man he is. He does crazy flips, has landed on his back from tripping on his own feet (he gets clumsy when he's excited) and I learned to just let him be. I check on him of course, but if he's not hurt play resumes. Otherwise I'd make him into a bubble boy to keep him from ever getting hurt. |
Thanks- I am going to try, I can't let him go! I knew I would love him...I didn't know that he would be my absolute baby!!! After I move into my own place after college, I'm definitely getting more yorkies. Great company...but they worry me :( So so fragile, but so smart. Nothing is "safe enough" to me to leave him alone for a few minutes! You'll get a kick out of this though... I took a mattress out of the extra bedroom and put it on my floor so me and my baby can sleep together instead of his cage tonight. He is sleeping like a baby already...I have pillows inbetween all my dressers, and he can't get under my bed. I have a recliner chair but it is being blocked by his dog carrier. No cords are exposed, he just has his play area there....a SAFE dog house, and his safe toys in a box. (not that there are unsafe ones, just the ones that I won't worry about him having when I'm not right by his side.) |
:sidesplt: You're such a worry wart mommy! Kaji was a year old when he came home. The first few nights he slept in his ex-pen. I couldn't think of a safer place for him to be. Guess where he sleeps now? In my opinon, Kaji is teeny. He is 7 lbs and a foot tall. He is much more durable and stronger than I thought he'd be. They can surprise you! |
I am, what can I say? I worry a lot? :D Mango is a little bigger than the average Yorkie, somewhat over 7 pounds. Still fragile, but I'm SO glad I don't have a 4 or 5 pound one. Imagine how much I'd worry then!!! In your bed? Is that where he sleeps? That's just a wild guess that came out of no where!!! :p |
More like wherever he pleases. He has a tent, a bed, and of course where I sleep. I found him once sleeping on my brother's back. He was curled up real tight, sleeping away. I got up to get the camera, and Kaji did too. He went back to sleeping right by my side. |
Awwwwwww that's adorable!!!! I lay down on the couch or wherever and he climbs up on my tummy and sleeps there. He knows I'm his mommy :) |
I say if you hiss when person come near him, too attached! ;) |
Okay good, then I'm not too attached :p |
...Yet! :p |
What do you mean yet? it's been about ten minutes since I posted the I'm not to protective and don't hiss....but the time has come. STAND FAR FROM MY BABY!! *HISSSSSSS* |
Hehe! You so funny! |
You mean telling kids, "sorry he bites" when he doesn't isn't enough. I should hiss at people too? |
Sure, show person how crazy we yorkie lover is! |
I'll bite them next time. :D |
Or you could raise leg and mark territory? :p |
Little kid: Hi, may I pet your dog? Me: No, I bite!!!!! |

and don't be paranoid - we have no control over the what if's - just use common sense and enjoy him ! |
You know how a lot of dogs get really close and sniff sniff sniff the nose, butt and stuff....well...Mango, he likes to nip when a dog gets too close. kinda funny, i just don't want other peoples dogs owners being like, "oh get your dog away, he bites." Thing is....hes not biting, he gets excited, and a little nervous. last night, mango slept in the bed until 2am, and then i just put him in his cage...the floor mattress wasnt so comfy...and i was getting allergies and mango didn't like when i sneezed :p |
I know that my Merlin is the cutest little thing ever and he is such a people lover. But then strange people see him, just lift him up and start kissing and fondling him! And I really get mad when they try to give him a treat out of their pocket! Excuse me, but I don't take any skin baby out of their stroller or whatever to cuddle with them. |

I know this sounds like I'm making Kaji anti social, but I'm not. I promise you all I'm not. He's just a very nervous dog and I like to control the situation to guarantee it's a happy good situation for him. As long as people ask before diving down to pet him, I allow it because it gives me time to pick him up or calm him down and put him in a sit stay. It also gives me a chance to request where they can touch him. It's less scary for him if they pet his back or his chest than if they go straight for his head. |
Dinky the Big Boy You guys are funny. I've had Dinky for about 3 weeks, and he is nuts about me and, of course, me about him! I really want him to be well socialized though. So I take him lots of places. He started out afraid of everything, then got totally obsessed with me and didn't want hubby around. But now he's happy with hubby and me too. He likes meeting his doggy friends every evening when we walk. Dinky was 2.8 pounds at his first vet visit. He's 5 months now, so he won't be very big. I want him to be afraid when he should be afraid, but not afraid when he does not need to be. He's getting braver everyday. In the mornings, he's so full of himself, he's a little too fearless. This guy is always on a leash when he is outside! Anyway, dont' baby him too much or he could end up fearful and snappy. |
