positive potty issue??? Serena has been pad trained pretty much from day one, she was the easiest one i have ever trained and i trust her more than any of them. I did the cherrio treat method and praise and she expects the cherrio everytime she potties which i have no problem with.... my problem is, i have her pads in the kitchen and i spend alot of time in the kitchen and she will go many many times just so she can have her treat, she will even go on and squat like she has peed and come running for a treat even though i know for a fact that she did not pee....she does not have a UT infection or any other health problems....she only does this when i am sitting or working in the kitchen, she knows what she is doing. How do i discourage her from doing this without confusing her that going potty on the pad is good. She can hold it all night, she will very seldom potty outside, she waits till she comes in to potty. Should i just praise her when i know that she didn't potty or just squeezed out a little bit. I have begun breaking the cherrios in half or smaller because she is getting way too many. Goodness knows i don't want to ruin a good thing here but i also don't want her living off of cherrios. Any suggestion are greatly apperciated....Thanks |
They are smart little things:) Maybe just praise and pet her "You are such a smart little girl - you know where to go potty :)- good girl" Save the cheerio's for the real potty. |

Haha that's too cute. Yorkies love to be sneaky! Although I'm still potty training Sophia I make sure not to reward her with a treat every time she goes potty so she doesn't make it a habit of only doing her business for a threat! I like to use words of encouragement too :) |
They are so smart! Merlin actually started a new thing: He pretends to pee and then comes running to me for a treat! Or he pees in intervals: he does it once, gets a treat. Then he goes for a second time, gets a treat. And sometimes he even squeezes a few drops out a third time! First I thought he had an infection but the vet said he is clear, just a smart bugger who loves the new cheese flavoured treats.:animal36 |

Tessie also does this, she makes sure I see her trying to potty on the pad ( she will NOT) potty outside. She will then run to the counter and jump to show me to get her a treat. Of course when we go outside and the boys potty and get treats she still thinks she should get a treat. She is such a Princess. |
My little "Princess" will go outside and expects a treat even if she does not go potty outside. But I refuse to give her one, unless she goes outside. Princess is starting to understand why we go outside.... to go potty and then play. But, still has a ways to go before she is housebroken. I use a pee pad indoors in her XT pen, where I keep her as she is not housebroken yet. She will go on this. I allow her to run around indoors when she is fully supervised. And loves to snuggle up next to me on the couch. I am praying she will eventually be fully trained. She is a challenge with the potty training compared to our pomeranian puppy. I had him fully trained before he was 4 months. I am reading yorkies can be difficult to potty train. So, I continue to work with her. I know she will eventually get it! I am glad though, she will go on a potty pad also. Because she hates to go outside on wet grass. I can only imagine what she will be like when it snows here. LOL!!!! I have seen these little "balloon" booties at local pet stores. Wondering if I use those, if that may help with her reluctance to go potty on wet grass? |
