I want to go riding with my yorkie I would love to start taking Brandi on bike rides with me. I was thinking of getting one of those baskets that you put on the handle bars. Would this be a good option. I am on this exercising kick and I love riding my bike and would love it if I could take Brandi. It won't seem so much like exercising with her riding with me. What do you think? |
I have thought about doing the same thing. Please post and let us know how it works out and if she enjoys it.:) |
I have a bike with a basket on the front, I take Sophie Kate for rides and its really a lot of fun. My basket is more like a wicker basket and not the wire type. I make sure I have her harness and leash on and I keep the leash on wrapped tight around my hand just in case she gets all daring and jumps off. I also put a towel in the basket so she is comfy. I only go around my neighborhood, I am not brave enough to venture out to far yet. The trick is getting her in the basket while I am trying to steady the bike, its a balancing thing with my knees bracing the bike. I must admit we do look kind of dorky, me on an old school bike with the dog in the basket....I love it. |
1 Attachment(s) I have a basket on my bike and ride with Oliver. I got the basket on Amazon and it has a little strap w/ a clip for his harness. Its a really short little strap so he can sit, but its not long enough for him to stand up. Its a lot of fun and he loves it, but I'm not sure I am getting very good exercise :D I am scared to go too fast. |
2 Attachment(s) I take Soph on bike rides and she loves it! We just got a basket at Walmart, put a couple of towels in it so her toenails don't get caught, and use two leashes to cross tie her so she can't jump out. She loves the wind in her hair. We keep the bikes in the apartment, no place to put them outside that they'd still be there in the morning:rolleyes:. I just put her harness on her, pull up beside the couch and she jumps right in the basket so I can clip the leashes. First couple of rides I had to put her in the basket but by about the third one She was jumping in on her own as soon as the bike was close enough to the couch for her to reach the basket. It's too hot for us to ride right now but we can't wait until this fall when it cools off again. This past spring we'd ride every day. I say go for it! I bet Brandi would have a blast. 1 Attachment(s) My bike is a beach cruiser, so I bought the large metal basket. They get a lot of air this way too. Then I just made a little pad for the bottom and a tiny leash with hooks at both ends so I can attach one to their harness and one to the basket. |
I want to get one of those too!! I need a big one for my two to both ride though. I was also thinking about getting one of those caboose things that trail along from behind. They make them for dogs too, but unfortunately they are just as expensive as the ones made for children. |

I have a teapot and have been thinking about getting the trailer with wheels that hooks to the back of the bike, I think Callie would be more comfy in that. |
My Aunt just took one of my girls. She rides on the beach everyday. She bought a little basket for the front of her bike and Jasmine just loves it. She is almost 3 so not sure how she would adjust to that but she has been doing great and really likes going. |

I like all those baskets, I need to rethink my basket now. I am so glad I am not the only person who takes her dog for a bike ride. |
1 Attachment(s) Here's a picture of Corkie..my 15 year old and Marley my two year old Not enough room for all three, but I'm working on it now. That is a friend's bike I'm using, so I'm in the market for my own cruiser. Been checking craigslist..but nothing so far in my price range |
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I plan on going out this weekend and getting a basket. I can't wait. |
