Crying at Night Almond is 8 weeks. I know crying at night is fairly normal for a puppy of this age, though i'm losing my mind. How do i get her to stop crying through the night? She sleeps in a house/crate next to my bed, but wakes me up periodically through the night with crying. Help! |
When Almond cries in the night do you take her out to go potty? Just thinking of things that she may be crying for. She is young and may not be able to go through the night without a potty break. |
I agree. 8 Weeks is very young to hold their pee overnight. They don't want to pee in their bed. Good luck. You have come to the right place for advice, glad you found your way here. Donna :D Welcome to YT!! |
Does she have something to cuddle with? Is she getting cold at night...in a draft? |
Yes, I do take her out. She just looks up and stares at me. It's cute, but frustrating. She has been pad trained from the breeder and goes #1 if she needs to, but refuses to go #2 anywhere except in the house. Yesterday I got her to go #2 outside twice which was a big success. I think she's crying for attention. Not sure what to do. I don't want to let her in the bed, because i don't want her to get used to that. |
Yes she is very young. and probably needs to go potty. at that age, they can not hold it, and usually need to go about every 2 hours or so. and at that age, she may be getting hungry in the middle of the night. or just lonely. when mine were very young, I kept a shirt in their crate, that I had worn for a couple days, so they had my sent all night, to make them feel closer to me. but I also got up a few times a night, and took them out to potty and let them get a bite to eat an cuddle with me for a few minutes. then back in the crate for a few hrs. I know it is a lot of work, and you loose a good bit of sleep. but they are just like having an infant, good luck, and take some naps during the day..;) |
You might also try a "ticking" clock. Wrap it in a sock or something so she can cuddle and listen to the "heart-beat". Always worked for mine. |
Plus, at 8 weeks your little one should still be with it's mom and litter mates. Learn how to be patient with her because she was released too early and she may (or may not) have other behavioral problems down the road. You can start simple basic obedience with her to help the both of you bond and so you can start learning what will and what won't work with her. |
I have a stuffed dog that has a heat pack and a beating heart. Maybe you could find something like that. Can't remember what it's called. Someone here probably knows. I agree, it is like having a newborn baby. You lose a lot of sleep at first but it is so worth it in the end. |

Yeah my puppy came home at 9 weeks and cried the first night too but I put the cage as close to me as possible (literally slept with it ON the bed)...that helped me 100%. He doesn't cry at all now, he just wants to be close to you OR really does need to pee. Just be patient and give him all the attention he needs, he'll get better...I think its just getting used to the new surroundings. Best of luck and congratulations on your little one!!! :) |
Well she was to young to be taken away from her mommy for one. All you can do is take her out to potty when she starts whining and then you will have to ignore it as best as possible. Getting a puppy is not easy its like having a new baby and you dont get much sleep. I was lucky I had my grandma who would watch Callie for an hour or two sometimes so I could take a nap but even then it was rough. But it was all so very much worth it! |
I know you have heard this already but 8 weeks is YOUNG for a toy. She should have stayed with her mom until 12 weeks or older. It will get better I promise. :) |
Welcome to YT:) You've been given some great advice and will continue to get more if you need it. Hang in there. |
