Mommy's who work Soo I was wondering, those of you Mommy's who have new babies that have to work during the day...what do you do with your little furbaby during the day? I'm currently conflicted on what to do with Oliver. Right now since I only work a mile from my dad's house, I drive him there every morning and he plays in his ex-pen and then I go over at noon and 3:00 to let him out, play with him a bit and so forth. Sometimes my brother is home and can give him attention but most of the time he's all alone :( Is that good for a yorkie this young?? I'm wondering if I should just bring him into my office like I did when I first got him but I feel like he'd have more fun in his ex-pen. What is more important...human contact or a bigger place to run around in? Thanks guys! Maybe I'm just being paranoid but I want him to grow up well-adjusted! If it were up to me I'd just quit my job and stay with him all day long!! :p |
It's tough leaving them, I know exactly what you mean! I'm working 3 days a week right now. This is what we do (we have 3 kiddos). Our master bedroom is open to our master bathroom - so during the day, they stay in the master bathroom (fenced off) which is very open, has a big window, 3 dog beds + pillow , pee pad, toys, water, running space. I would never want them wandering the house bc it just wouldn't be safe. I think it sounds like you have good options either way. What if you did both? A couple/few days a week do one option, then the other days - do the other? That way, he'll be used to both too, and it's good for puppies to learn flexibility. And also, my dogs sleep soooo much during the day (as in, when I'm home with them) - so keep that in mind too; your baby will spend a lot of time dreaming :). |
Yeah he's sleeping on my lap right now in my office, I was able to talk the boss into letting me bring him :) I just can't bear to leave him alone!! Once he's potty trained I'll be able to give him more freedom :) |
I work from 9-5 every day during the summer. I have the option to bring Levi with me, and occasionally I do, but I usually leave him at home and go home on my lunch break to check on him and take him out. He is two years old and well potty-trained, so no accidents when I get home. He doesn't like the confinement of my office at work and definitely prefers to have space to run around...if he were the type to nap all day long in my lap, I would definitely bring him to work more often  |

I feel awlful having to leave my little one but know I have to work and I am unable to bring Lola with me. I usually take her to a wonderful doggie daycare 2 days a week, then to my parents for a day which just leaves her at home by herself for 2 days. I have a little webcam set up that I can peek in on her during the day and mostly she is curled up on mom's bed and then when I open the garage door I see her racing down the stairs to meet me...I wish I could take her to work but think she is pretty used to her schedule now. |
I'm lucky because I still live with my parents and we all work different shifts. I work 11-7 mon-fri, my mam works 12 hours shifts on a rota basis so she could work a full week then have a week or two off sort of thing. And my dad only works 2 hours in the morning 7-9 and 2 hours in the afternoon 2-4 so my pup is never really alone for a long time at all. But when she is alone she sleeps in her crate with her toys :) |
Pixie is almost two years old now but it was hard when she was little to leave her all day. I work 8 -5 5 days a week. At that time I lefted her in a 5x6 foot area with water, pee pads and a gate to keep her in place. That is a big window and lots of light and of course lots of toys. Since she has been year old we let her have most of the house. We put a gate up in a hall way that keeps her in the livingroom, diningroom, kitchen, and coat room. She has all of her toys and she know when we are home. She is right at the back door with her favorite ball just waiting for us to home in to play. |
Mine are home with daddy all day. Hubby has an injury so he is home for a while. |
Mine stay home during the day and I have the dog walker or neighbor stop by for potty breaks. They have full run of the house…but I don’t recommend this for dog that are not potty trained. Now that I have a second dog...Lola is not as stressed when I get home... PS I'm a proud daddy not a mommy :) |
Mine has an enclosed area with lots of toys, a bed etc. I work from 8.30 - 4.30 but it's only 7min away so I come home at lunch time for an hour. |
Fiona is crate trained, even when I got her at 4 months she was fine in the crate when I worked. I have been unemployed since the end of April, so my pups are loving me being home..... |
My boyfriend and I work opposite shifts, he works in the morning and I work at night, so that way the boys are almost never alone, or they are only alone for a few hours at a time. I think it works out pretty well. :) I only wish I could bring my boys to work. I think they would probably hate it though, because they are accustomed to having full run of the house. Spoiled babes. :p |
Bailey goes to puppy camp 3 days a week I drop him off before I go to work and pick him up after, right around the corner from my job. |
