2 part question My Zoe only barks when she wants to play (front paws in front of her and butt in the air) or when my daughter comes with her yorkie for playtime. But she never barks at the doorbell or knocking on the door. We've tried barking to get her started but so far it hasn't worked. She's 14 weeks old. Any suggestions? Also I need to know how to get my puppy to stop trying to nurse on my daughter's yorkie (10 months old). Whenever they get together Zoe chases Dee, who is very mild mannered, around the room and the moment Dee stops running Zoe runs underneath..definitely trying to nurse. I have to separate them so Zoe doesn't wear Dee out by her constant chasing plus I feel very sorry for Zoe since I believe she thinks Dee is her mother. |

My dogs go nuts when somebody comes to the door. Barking, running around, etc. The person can't even walk in the door without the dogs crying and trying to jump on them. It is really not a desired behavior and if your girl isn't doing it you should be very glad. Probably not something you would want to teach?. |

We would get all excited and ask "who's coming, who's coming" Finally he barked, yeah. Then we got Sissy and he taught her to bark, not so yeah. Now they bark at the neighbors dog, squirrels, birds, doorbells, people walking down the street, bicycles, shadows, the mail lady, butterflies, and grass blowing in the wind. They usually start with the first noise around 5;30AM and I think the neighbors are hoping we move soon. |

Teegy only barks at strange noises he's not noisy at all. Too many people out there associate Yorkies with being yappy, don't encourage it. What I do love is when they have a conversation, that I do not curtail, it's wonderful. I say nay to barking and yay to Yorkie talk |
My little guy just discovered his bark. He'll whine and make tiny barks when I put him in his cage when I have to shower or something but just yesterday while I was on my computer and he was playing on the floor he came right over to me, sat and looked at me and barked! Haha it was the cutest thing ever, that was the first time he had ever done it. Then afterwards, he kept doing it to see if I'd respond. Guess other dogs and squirrels will be next! :eek: :p |
I am smiling as I read your post about your baby 'not barking'. My new puppy who's will soon be 7 months old is just oozing with 'barks'. If my son walks in the room, he barks, hubby walks in the room, he barks...lol. Anybody walks out the door, he barks. I am not sure how I'm going to get this little guy to 'not bark' everytime the other house people come near me or leave the house. grin |
Be happy, my Brandi barks at the invisible people. Any noise can get her started even when there is nothing there. I think she is barking at the "invisible people" that no one can see but her. Then after she is sure the "invisble people" are gone she comes proudly strutting back to me to let me know she chased them away and we are safe again. |
Enjoy the quiet because once she starts she will never stop. :D |
guess I should be glad but most of the books say yorkies are excellent watchdogs. I knew mine had a a bark when she was about 7 weeks old but watchdog she isn't..at least not yet. LOL |
