4th of July and the Little Ones Just heard some fireworks and was wondering, how are your little ones during the 4th of July? We have fireworks going off almost every night, especially since the world cup started and so Rizzo is pretty much immune to them. But I remember having a rottweiler growing up that we'd have to put in the basement on this particular day because she'd get so worked up that she'd break things, running around, shaking. Just curious how you all handle the fireworks season? |
We don't have any problems with our little guy, but my daughter has a pit bull that is terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks. She puts him in the bathroom now since last year during a thunderstorm he knocked over the baby. The baby was fine but why take chances. |
I'm wondering the same thing..This will be Izzy's first 4th of July...And I'm debating on taking her or not... She doesn't like thunder stroms so maybe i won't. |
Well, we have a "4th of July" party every year at my dads house but it's usually the weekend AFTER, but we still light off fireworks. The small-ish ones you can buy at the stands don't really bother Jackson. He just looks at them with curiosity. We can see the big ones on the real 4th of July from our house but they're kinda far off, so they don't bother him. I think if we were to bring him to a park and sit right where they were being put off, he would definitely be scared. We live with 90 acres of farmland behind us and the farmers often shoot deer and birds and Jackson does NOT like gunshots. |

This will be Oliver's first 4th of July so I'm going to be wary on the fireworks. He witnessed his first storm last night and wasn't too keen on that!! |
Thanks for the info Wylie's Mom. I will let her know they have tried a lot of different things, but I don't think Melatonin was one of them. I am sure she will research it first, but if it works Kiara would be a much happier pit. |
My crew like going to the "professional" displays...but when they hear the cracking of the ones the neighbors do like bottle rockets, boy they are ready to gettem!:D |
Callie has never seemed to have a problem with them but I have never taken her to a place where they were actually shotting them off we can just hear them in the distance. I'm not really sure if she was near where they were shooting them off if it would bother her or not but I think she would love to see them in the sky she seems to like bright lights if we drive a round at night. |
I guess we are about to find out how both of our puppies will react to fireworks going off in our area. We usually have neighbors that set off loud fireworks in addition to the local fireworks. |
this will be both my girls first 4th but there have been fireworks going off all week and they could care less now our border collie on the other hand TOTALLY falls apart go figure right |
This will be Kaji and my first 4th of July together. We'll see what happens. |
Great reminder, and I would like to remind everyone driving that night to be extra careful, and be on the lookout for run-away dogs. More dogs run away on Independence Day then any other day, I guess they take it too literally! |
Lola did fine last year but this will be Riley's 1st with me (he's my new rescue) not sure how he's going to do. He's very nervous and jumps at everything. Today, I was toasting some bread and he jumped a foot when he heard the toaster pop up. |
