Baby Yorkie size Hi! I'm going to be getting my first yorkie soon- a male at about 8 weeks old do you guys have an estimite on about how big he'll be? I know of course all dogs vary in size-- i was just wondering if the sweaters i bought were too big... |
how much does he weigh right now. And welcome to YT!!!! |
Welcome to YT. First, would your breeder keep the boy til he is older. Eight weeks is a bit young to be taken away from his mom and siblings. And,ask the person how much he weighs now and triple it at least.. |

Welcome to YT!!!!! How much does your baby weigh now? Do you know how big the parents are? It's hard to say, how big he will be without knowing. Enjoy your new baby when he comes home and please post pictures!!! :) :) |
Welcome and congrats on getting a new yorkie. Yorkie sizes can be really hard to determine. But right now I have a 3 yrs old - who is 6 pounds and a month old that's 1 pound. So at about 8 weeks he could be 3.5 pounds. But that's a total guess. My mother who also loves yorkies has a 13 pounder ... lol. Sorry but that's the way it goes - u just never know. Congrats again and best of luck. Katie |

at ten weeks tigger weighed 1.9 lbs. he is now four months and weighs 3.3 pounds. Ferret tee shirts might fit him, they sell some at PetsMart. they come in blue and red. but are kind of long, you'd have to cut it to his length. heres a pic of tigger at ten weeks: |

welcome to YT. i look forward to seeing pictures of your new little guy. |
I'm with whispersmom...if it is at all possible for the breeder to keep the litter together until the pups are at least 10 weeks (though 12 is better) that would be ideal. It makes a large impact on their development and socialization skills. The rule of thumb for size is triple 8 week weight, double 12 week weight and take into consideration the size of the parents/previous generations for best guess. Good luck on your new addition. |
