Going to the Dentist: Share your stories Derby has an incredibly bad underbite and while we brush his teeth almost daily, he still has some plaque build up. Today we discovered his gums bleeding when my hubby was brushing his teeth. A lot of blood he said... So the step is to take him to the Dentist. He is one years old. What happens at the dentist? How long do they stay? How often do we have to do this? How expensive is it without insurance? How was your pup afterwards? |

I hope there are some responses to this. My Charlie has a really bad underbite. So far so good, but who knows what's going to happen. |

It will depends on if teeth need to be pulled, if they are baby teeth or adult teeth, whether any other specialized treatment is needed, etc. If the vet does it dental, he would likely stay for a few hour to a day. Pricing can range from $150 to $1000+. I'd imagine if it's just a cleaning with possible extraction, it would be a couple-few hundred with bloodwork. |

On of mine has bad gums and has to have a yearly dental and she is only 4. My 5 year old just had her first dental a month ago. I take them in in the morning, they can't have anything to eat after midnight. They are put under and teeth cleaned and any bad ones are pulled. I always have blood work done prior to the procedure. WIth blood work and procedure it runs about 300.00. Each extraction is an extra 10.00. They are usually done and in recovery by 10:00 am and I can pick them up after 1 pm. They are tired the rest of the day but are back to normal the next day. Good luck with your babies. |

Derby is going in tomorrow morning. They seemed really concerned that his gums bled a lot, so they going to put him under tomorrow. They mentioned blood work, and a cleaning. They quoted us at almost $400, but there is an $80 rebate in August. They waved the August issue with us, and are giving us the rebate for June. That's decent since we don't have insurance! So we'll see how it goes! Hopefully Derby doesn't get sick from Anesthesia, as the last time he went under he did! puked and diarreah all night... So cross your fingers!! |
