Oh My...I need advice??? Izzy has just got into heat :( She has an appt on Aug. 2nd... I made it for that date because we are going camp July 24-Aug 1st and I didn't want to travel with her after she it it done... With that said...should I just go ahead and have her fixed now? Right now I have her in the expen in the kitchen.. What about doggy dipers...Do those work? or anything else I can try..She HATES being in the expen in the house and I feel really bad for keeping her in there but I can't have her dipping all over my house :thumbdown Thanks |
Is she going camping with you? You might want to have it done now and get it over with. Doggy diapers work for the bleeding, but if you mean to prevent another dog from getting at her - not at all! When did she go into heat? Just today? A heat generally lasts 3 weeks, so she might go out of it just prior to going camping. I know it's a bit more costly and a slight bit more dangerous to have it done when in heat. |

Because this is not an emergency, it is better for her to wait. I would keep the original appt. Spaying during heat is fine, but there is more blood involved and the risk is iincreased a bit. No reason to take that chance here... |
Yes, the diapers work well. I use a panty liner and change it several times a day. There isn't that much blood involved. The biggest problem you need to be aware of, I least I have this problem, is take your girl out potty frequently so she doesn't pee in it. I like to have several on hand in case that happens. |

Q. What if my pet is in heat? A. There are many reasons why a client may request to have their pet spayed during its heat cycle. Whatever the reason, it is possible to spay a pet when it is in heat. In some regards the surgery is easier. The ovaries and uterus typically are more engorged with more prominent blood vessels...in essence, its almost as if the tissues are yelling “here I am, take me out!” That being said, to minimize surgical complication risks, extra time is taken during an in-heat spay surgery. Consequently, due to this increased surgical time, there may be a small extra charge incurred for these patients. That being said, these are small dogs and extra surgical time is probably not so good. Most likely she will be out of heat before you go camping so you might just stick with your original plans. |

Is it normal for them to act "down" or "sad" ..Izzy just layes down kind of walks around then just layes back down...She did play with another yorkie (fixed male) today but when she's by herself she act depressed..She's not normally like that. |

I agree, yes it can change their personality, just like with women who can get moody. My girl always gets super lovey, wants extra attention and follows me around everywhere. |

I went today and got Izzy her panties with the liners that go inside them...OMG Izzy hated them for the 1st 15mins...She was barking at herself, rubbing on the wall to get them off:thumbdown...But then saw that she could rome around the house....she LOVES that idea!! lol:thumbup: I keep them off her when she's outside or in her crate, but she does use them when she's walking around the house. That's the way to do it right? She has been soooo sad that she's can't sleep with us right now...Is it ok to put these on her at night so she can she with us or would that be too long for her to wear them? I can't wait till hubby sees this....My husband loves Izzy..He has never loved a dog so much in his life..But when he's sees these panties, he's going to think i'm nuts..lol But then again that's what he said about the stroller and now he thinks it's a great idea ;) |
