Why Do Yorkies Do This? I am curious as to why my baby girl likes to go outside just to find a spot to roll around in the grass? Is this normal? |
She may be playing or rolling in something stinky. |

My maltese loves to roll in dead things, once he was rolling on a mole and it got stuck to his back, he was walking around with it stuck there and looking for it. |
Wow, she does this more times than going potty...lol |
one of mine does not do this the other one i have to watch like a hawk cause she goes right to any type of poop new old racoon mouse rolls in it then eats it ...i hate it |
OMG, Uni hardly ever does this. the few times she has, it actually grossed me out. It was at the same area she did it. Uni is not a roll around the grass type of girl. Hence why I got grossed out. However, her bff Missy, she does it to try to get the clips out of her hair. |
mine does the same thing! she just rolls on her back and goes all over the grass! She is just playing.. and i guess that they like how grass feelss.. im not sure why they do it.. |
I have seen many different type of dogs do this its just a dog thing. Sometimes they are trying to put there scent on something and sometimes they are trying to get the scent of whatever they are rolling on, on them. |
Bentley rolls around in the grass too. Puts his head down and the rest of his body follows! Lol! It seems he does this more so after a rain. Dyan |
Cammy does it too sometimes but Amy only does it after she takes a bath. |
Dogs find something that they like scent of (usually something stinky), and they roll around in it to carry that scent with them. Part of their "calling card" to let other dogs know where they've been. Jezebel rolls over on her back, legs in the air, and wiggles with abandon. My previous Yorkie would put her head & neck on the ground, with hind legs still fully up and butt in the air, then push with her back legs to move her body forward and rub her throat against the ground to get the scent of "whatever it was" all over her throat. We referred to it as "putting on her perfume." Once at the dog park I noticed several of the dogs in a tight little circle, surrounding something on the ground and pawing at it. Then Jezebel jumped right in the middle of them and did her wiggle on her back. I went over to find out what they thought was so darned interesting -- it was a small dead grass snake. |
Neo LOVES to roll around on dead, dried up earthworms! |
that's funny because this came up last night at the park. Same answer was given, either poop or something dead |
