to late? so i got my yorkie about 2 years ago. my mom had gotten him for me from someone on line and we got him shipped here ( i know i know. its horrible but we didnt know back then and i wont ever do it again) but i was wondering. what if he was from a puppy mill or something? i know his health could decline but he is just about 2 years old now and the vet said his hips and knee's were great. will something come up later? i know this is probably a stupid question. thanks :D |
I'm sure my Lexi was a puppy mill pup too.. but she did show signs of it.. Her really bad coughing when she got too excited, her heart problem and what not.. If you keep up with vet visits, I'm sure things will be ok.. and if not, at least you'll find out if it's treatable thanks to the vet visits.. :) I'm happy your baby has 2 great years under him though! :D |
Aww how sad :( How long do puppies generally live when they're from puppy mills? I did the best I could in researching my breeder before I purchased my baby but you still never know....I'm so glad your puppies have such great homes!! |
he does the backwards sneezing often. but i think alot of yorkies do that? |

I know people who have gotten poorly bred dogs who are very healthy and live a good, long life. I also know people who have poorly bred dogs who have tons of health issues as they age. It can be many years before those genetic time bombs go off or they may not go off at all. I adopted Lady when she was 4.5 years old. She was perfectly healthy except she had seizures. From about age 6-8 she really feel apart. She developed diabetes, arthritis, allergies, and hypothyroidism! I just about went broke paying vet bills. She is now 14.5 years old so she has lived a long life, but it has been a very costly life! I would try not to worry about what the future may bring. Just be proactive and feed him the best food possible, get regular vet checkups w/bloodwork and make sure to put money away every month in a separate savings account so it is there in case you have a big or unexpected vet bill. |
Sometimes puppy mill puppies do great sometimes they dont. You just have to watch out for things like you would normally with any yorkie, puppy mill or not and when you do have normal vet check ups just make sure they do a good all over check. We ended up finding out Callie probably came from a puppy mill after we got her and I learned about them and she as a few things like LP, allergies, skin allergies, and the vet mentioned maybe a little tiny bit or arthritis in her back and shes not the "standard" yorkie shes has floppy ears, weighs 16 pounds, and her tail look like they might have docked it but not the right way because its a little bit longer then a nubby but not quite a full tail, but she seems to have pretty good health besides that. All any of us can do is hope and pray for a long long time with our babies and enjoy the time we have :D |
Hard to say.. even sometimes when you have your pup from a good breeder,. it can have a problem.. But i wont worrie to much about it ;) :D enjoy your baby ! |
