Oliver very nervous after minor earthquake Am sure you've all heard about the earthquake we had here in Ontario this afternoon.... thankfully it was no big deal, but I must admit I was a little freaked out! Most Canadian's so aren't used to that sort of thing, lol. I called home to see how the dogs were doing, was told they were fine... but I got home to find Oliver VERY nervous... he won't leave my side.. I put them outside and he sat by the door crying. I'm sure it scared him - it scared ME and I knew what was going on (after thoughts of "am I going nuts, or is the floor really moving!"). Anyone ever experience this? Mya is perfectly fine. It's just little Ollie, who is afraid of everyyyyyything... maybe some playtime with mom will make him feel better.... gonna try... my poor boy :( |
Poor Ollie :(. Animals can be so attuned to the earthquakes. Does he wear clothes or no? If he does, a tighter shirt can be comforting to a dog - they use them for dogs with anxiety sometimes. I bet play w/ Mama will help too :). |
I've been recently working on Cooper's fear of thunderstorms, although I'm not sure how comparable that is. I take out his "big boy tough shirt" and put it on him. I also put on soft, calming music, and believe it or not I think he finds that very soothing. Try both of those things while playing with Ollie. |

Well, i am still thinking about it since i saw it in the news... hope all is well with your family! |
They do pick up on the earthquakes. I spent most of my life in San Diego. My dogs, and especially my birds, would always get agitated right before a shock. |
I think the earthquake was around 2.00pm. I left work shortly after and Merlin was pretty quiet but that might have been because we went to the vet at noon for his shot. We played and went for a walk and he was fine. Don't think he was bothered too much. |
Now we are having tornado warnings all around us, our city is just barely outside the pink but close enough for it to be concerning. Lots of damage very close to me. No wonder Oliver is not happy. I'm not either! lol. |
They're saying tremors could be felt all the way here in NY! It's a scary thought but I'm glad everyone is ok :) |
i have a nervous nelly to fireworks and thunder storms mean nothing to her but she got the hiccups the other night and totally shut down like would not move an inch shook like a leaf i had to wrap a blanket tightly around her and hold her till she calmed try snugglin |
LOL, here in California, all the time, I live here for 16 years or so, and I have not got use to it, hubby don't like either and he was born here, lol hahaha...:p glad you all are ok:animal-pa |
He seems fine today :) We had storms all around us, we got rain and I know I heard some thunder at some point - we were put into a tornado warning, our local station called it an emergency situation - not something we Canadian folk are used to either, lol. There was definitely a tornado in Midland, around 40 mins from me - lots of damage but thankfully only minor injuries. I think that was all just too much for Oliver to take in one day, lol. He had some nightmares last night I think as well. Hoping for a calmer day and a happier puppy today when I get home from work.. lol. Never would have thought there would be an earthquake and tornado warning in one day. I could never get used to it, don't know how people living in tornado alley or near fault lines do it... I'd always be a nervous wreck, lol. |
