We adopted Cody about 2 months ago from a family who didn't want to keep him. At that time he was 3 months old and the family had another dog that wouldn't accept him, so they kept them separate. They apparently bought him from a BYB at about 8 weeks. Originally we wanted to adopt a shelter puppy but there weren't any "small" puppies in our area so we were really interested in Cody. He didn't have papers but we didn't really care. So we got him and he is absolutely adorable and we love him unconditionally.

After we adopted him, we were given a paper that had the name and address of the orignal owner/breeders. I sent them a letter about Cody and received a response with pictures of his parents. The family was apparently a BYB and originally from South America. With a little language difficulty, I learned that the father was a Yorkie from South America (from Champion lines???). No real info about the mother although the owners indicated that she was a "Yorkie" but I'm not sure. The father was supposedly 6 lbs and the mother about 10 or 11 lbs. So my question, I'm attaching pictures of the parents and Cody, what do you think? Cody is about 9-1/2 lbs at 5 months. He is longer than he is high which makes me think he may be part Silkie (thank you to those on the Silkie thread, I had never considered a Silkie). I think he has his mother's face (i.e. a longer nose and eyes). The vet says that he will be about 10-11 lbs.

He is a cutie. He looks like the mother, if she is the bigger one in the last picture. He could be all yorkie, just not bred to the standard.

He's got the same face as my Rhett, who is supposedly all yorkie. What ever he is, he is a cutie.

I will always question the Silky debate as well. I purchased Jackson from an ad on a local super ads site. Needless to say, she wasn't breeding to better the breed, or to standard, or anything, she was a nice young woman in her late 20's with a young daughter, and I went into her house and saw Jackson's mother and littermates (only 1 other pup was left besides Jackson). She was clearly in it for extra money, but did cry when we left with the puppy and kissed him goodbye, etc. But still, BYB nonetheless.

Sometimes I tend to think maybe his mother was a Silky, and the father was a Yorkie (I know sometimes people will do this, because a female Silky is obviously larger than a Yorkie). Or that the woman breeding them honestly didn't even know herself. Personality-wise, he's more like what people describe a Silky, and he's not really like many Yorkies I've ever met. Either way, he's a great dog; really has never had any behavioral issues, loves every dog he meets, he's super smart and learns tricks sooo easily, he's an all around great dog so if he IS a Silky, I would like to know so when getting my 2nd, I may look for a Silky pup from a reputable breeder. But it's not a huge deal to me.

To me, I see Silky but I've posted on other dog forums and they think he's just an oversized Yorkie. I asked a local Silky breeder through e-mail and she thought I was sold a Silky although she can't say for sure.

So bottom line, Who knows!! It's sooo hard to tell when so many people are breeding Yorkies not to standard, etc. The Silky was created by breeding the Yorkie with the Australian Terrier so they are closely related.

So I guess Cody is a Yorkie not bred to standard or could be part Silky. He seems to have the physical attributes listed of the silky (i.e. longer than tall, muscular, longer nose) and he will be a larger Yorkie (already over 9 lbs at 5 mos). Regardless, he's our baby and we love him so much.

I think we both have the same squirrel toy, lol! It's one of Rizzo's fav's, just have to ask him where Squirrel is and he goes running to get it, if he can't find it he just sits down and make the most pathetic noise so I help him find it...And Cody is a hansome boy ;D

If it helps any of you that question your beautiful babes, here is a google site that I love to go just to look at pictures. I personally think the Silky in these pictures really stand out in comparison to the Yorke, but even still I question my own Moka. OP-I think your Cody is precious. I love floppy ears!

He was 6lbs at 12 weeks and just kept growing!

Cody was 6 lbs at 12 weeks too. He may catch up to Jackson!

I love your dog!!! I watched the pool video and it was prue joy to see him swimming and playing.

But, my questions is, do all silkies have the shorter hair on the legs or can they have the long hair on the legs like the standard yorkie?

He does have the same face as Rhett. So adorable! How old is Rhett and how much does he weigh?

I guess I thought he might not be all Yorkie because of his size (longer nose than most yorkies, longer body) .

Rhett weighed in at nearly 8 lbs at his 20 week visit. He's a bigger boy and I adore every ounce of him.
