Pacing In the last week or so Tensley has started to pace. Despite the fact that he is usually attached to my hip, when it's not possible for him to be "on" me, he paces frantically! Nothing has changed. Our routine is exactly the way it's been since day 1. Infact, everyone probably loves on him even more. I don't know what to do. Anyone have any suggestion to the cause or how I can curb this behavior? It's driving everyone insane. |
Hmmm....how old is he? He's not having puppy hormonal changes, is he? Is he panting or anything along w/ the pacing? What about his posture...does he seem scared/cowered, or is he trotting/prancing around when he is pacing? In other words, does he seem like himself, overall, other than this pacing? |
From your other posts, it looks like Tensley is about 9-10 months old. Has he been neutered? If not, I'll bet there is a female in heat in your area. Intact males can pick up the scent for miles. They will pace, whine and drive you crazy. They will also do anything to escape so you have to be very, very careful just going in and out of the door. |
Tensley is 9, almost 10, months old and is NOT neutered. However, and I'm 99.9% positive on this, there are NO female dogs within a one mile radius (beyond the one mile is water). SERIOUSLY! We live in a very small, vacation community that, at the moment, might have 10 residents. And of those 10 residents, 8 have dogs, ALL neutered MALES. And there've been no new vacationers in the condo's near us. Believe me, a female in heat is something I immediately thought when Tensley started pacing. But he doesn't whine or make any noise, he just frantically paces all over, almost like he doesn't know what to do with himself when someone can't give him attention. I try to distract him, giving him his toys, but he wants me to sit with him. Otherwise, he paces. Have I created a monster? |
