Minute of pure fear... My heart is racing I just got back in from walking Kobe, we have had him for almost a year and almost never run into other dogs around here. So as we are walking our every day route, i'm focused on making sure he doesn't eat anything off the ground or try to chase a snake... then I hear this loud barking (which doesn't usually mean anything because the dogs are always in the back yard) but instinctively i turn towards the sound and there is 2 huge 150 lb maybe more chocolate labs running at me full speed & a black lab small still a puppy but running as well. the older lady that lives in the house i guess see my concern (i'm freaked out) and trying to hurry and pick Kobe up. She is yell to me that they aren't going to do anything but at the same time yell for her son to come outside and get them. i'm like WTF (sorry). Biggest choco lab reaches me and is easily past my waist, I know the dogs are people friendly but don't know how the will react to Kobe and thats not something im going to test. Nothing bad happened thank goodness but Kobe growled quite a it trying to protect mommy i guess and the labs just run off after a few seconds... although it felt like 10 minutes...LOL:rolleyes: |
Scary! Labs are usually not an issue, friendly to a fault, but the big doofus could still end up being too rough and not realizing it. If the same situation happened with a German Sheppard or worse a pit bull, then you REALLY would have reason to be afraid, even if you picked up your little one. When we walk by fenced big aggressive dogs, I always pick my guys up and yell, NO to the big dogs, thinking they might listen. Don't know if they would listen, but picking up your Yorkies is a great idea IMO. My little male is way too aggressive with big dogs, like you said, trying to protect us I guess. |
I been there, is so scary, my legs were shaking like two maracas lol, sorry you have to go through that, so glad that nothing happens, hallelujah, amen:thumbup: |
Picking your dog up is not going to stop an aggressive dog. He will just attack you, too. If a dog comes up behind you, there may not be time. One shake of a tiny Yorkie's neck can kill it. IMO, everyone should carry doggie mace (Muzzle). If you live in an area where very aggressive breeds like pits may be lose, carry bear repellent. Amazon.com: Mace Brand Muzzle Dog Repellent... |
Ladymom, thanks for remind me, I forgot, to mention that, I have my pepper spray and stun gun with me, hubby make fun of me sometimes and ask me if, I preparing for war:yelrotflm , but be careful well the wind blows because you can get the mice or the pepper spray on you or your pet:aimeeyork |
I am glad that nothing happened! I would have picked up my little baby too, it's just instinctual! You can never tell if a strange dog, small or large, is aggressive, so I'm sure it was extremely scary to have such large dogs running toward you and your little guy!! |
Wow, so glad nothing happened! It can be scary for sure. Quote:

Zeke is very aggressive with larger dogs. We have two yellow labs that live across the street. The one wants to play with him and the other wants to eat him. I have heard that carrying wasp spray with you is also a good option as it shoots quite far. |

Kobe usually isn't aggressive with larger dogs but he isn' t afraid at all either. He would rather greet a big dog instead of a small one but I do think his reaction was aggressive because the dogs were barking and growled a little. Once the lab got to me he wasn't aggressive and I corrected Kobes barking and growling. I'm not sure how I would have reacted if it was an aggressive dog, I knew they were people nice but you just never know. |

I'm glad Kobe is ok. Friendly or not, it's scary seeing any dog running towards your little one. |
Heart stopping moment, how scarey!! Glad you and Kobe are okay, although....you may see a few grey hairs pop...lol. |

The workers at our local ER actually told us that they treat more bites from Labs than all other breeds combined. I was not expecting that. I'm always baffled when I see statements about specific "breeds" that are good "family dogs" and see Labs at the top of the list most of the time. I don't really think that it's accurate to deem a dog as such based on breed alone. |
