:( Maybe one of these can help... Georgia Pet Shelters and Animal Rescue Or you could try calling your vet to see if they know of any local rescues who would be willing to step in and help. |
Is the mail still being delivered to these people? Maybe you can put a note on or in their mailbox telling them you have the dogs and to please call you? You're going to be very lucky if you can find a rescue to take these dogs. So many of them are at max capacity now thanks to summer vacations, the economy and home foreclosures. Be persistent, ask if they can put these dogs on a list, and be patient. IG rescue always gets lots of owner turn ins at the beginning of summer and the holidays. |

Just a thought....are you sure the owners are not in the hospital, hurt or injured during the fire? You didn't mention anything about if the people were at home while the house burnt down. But you sure know those people and it sounds like they were not very reputable in the first place. So good of you to care for the dogs. |

You know honestly I don't know if they were injured or at home when the fire started. I pray that they were not injured! They usually gone during the day so I just assumed they were not home. I am going to ask around to some of the other neighbors tonight to see if they know more info. |
My next step is to leave a note in the mailbox after talking to some other neighbors to see if they have seen anyone come during the day. I will do this tonight when I get home from work. I will update tomorrow with what I find out! Thanks for all of your support and advice!! |
so an interesting turn of events last night. When I pulled up the owner of the home was in the driveway surveying the damage. I got out of the truck immediately and walked over to talk to her. Well turns out she has been working on the road and has not been home in months! Her niece and nieces bf and their kids had been staying there to take care of the home and the dogs for her (supposedly). She was in California when she got the call that her house had burned down (her niece caught the kitchen on fire) She was very upset when she arrived home to find that they had left the dogs there alone!!! She was also very grateful that we had been taking care of them and apologized over and over for them being left. She said she would have never done that. She arrainged to have them boarded until she can find a place to stay where she can take them with her until she rebuilds the house. Just wanted you all to know that the dogs are safe and sound:animal36 |
I just love a happy ending........ great job being a nice concerned neighbor and caring person. Thank you from the "dogs" for taking care of them:) |
This is such a blessing, I feel sad for the owner, she must be devastated. It is horrible that this happened to her and that her niece would not take care of the dogs. The niece was probably scared to come around. It was wonderful of you to take care of her dogs. It would have been horrible for her to come home and her dogs were gone, if she thought the niece was taking care of them. Sometimes you can't always depend on family to do what is right. |
I am so glad I stuck with my instinct and did not call Animal Control...that would have been another blow to her on top of the fire. The dogs were so happy to see her!!! |
