Babys Hair thin HI, My baby Hayley is 10 weeks old today. Seems like her hair on top of her head and neck looks to be getting longer and a lil thinner. The hair on the rest of her seems to be kindda thick. I havent noticed her losing any hair or scratching like with allergies, just wondering if this was normal. She also weighs 3 1/2 lbs which is a lot according to a lot of these yorkies on here. I have read to double her weight at 12 weeks and or triple it at 8 weeks. I have also read that thay can have a growth spurt between 8 and 12 weeks then it can slow down. Its my first yorkie so I dunno what to expect. Has anyone had a big puppie and then it turn out to be a avarage or small adult? I love her so no matter what she weighs but was just wondering  |
pup Hayley's coat looks fine for her age..it will take time to grow. Her size might run around 8 pounds or so...not really that big for a dog is it? |
Alot of yorkies have thinner hair, mine does, it just means they will have more of a silky textured type of coat as an adult than the cottony kind. Its a lot easier to comb thats for sure. Also when Bia was 12 weeks I did the weight guessamater thing on her and I remember her weight comming out at around 7-8lbs, shes is 6 months now & olny 5 lbs and hasn't gained any weight for awhile, so I wouldn't worry to much on her weight, its just a guessing tool. No one knows for sure how big they will get except for they're genes, so when she gets to be around 6 months, however much she weighs then that should be around her adult weight +/- a few onces. The yorkie standard is 4-7 lbs, but alot of them come smaller and bigger than that, some peoples yorkies here weigh 20 lbs, so maybe your yorkie will be bigger than the standard and maybe she wont. Hopefully you didnt get her to show her, because if your guess weight is true she will be to big, but Im sure she will have no problem being a great pet! |
Don't worry about your little one. She's perfect. Now if you think there is something wrong with her coat, take her to the Vet. If not, make sure she is eating a high protein, calcium diet (puppy food). Make sure her worming is kept up to date the first 6 months of her life. Worms do ruin their coats. Some coats are thin a silk coat is thin, a soft silk coat is thicker. As far as her weight, double around 8- 9 weeks. I have never heard of triple. All that is posted is average accounts. Even some of my posts are average. I have a sire who stopped growing completely at 5.8lbs, he was 6 months. Woody now is 13 months and is 5.8lbs. My guess estimate is your pup will be about 5 - 6lbs. And you know what ? You'll love her the same. :luvu: |
Mickeys hair seemed thinner when it first starting growing on his head. Now its not. |
Hayley is a beautiful name. I think when their lighter colored hair begins to come in, it makes their hair look thinner. On the other hand, when the adult hair is coming in on their body, it makes it look fuller. If you look through the black, it will look lighter at the roots, it seems to start first on top of the rump. I have four pups from a litter. They are 5 month old. The littlest girl 4 oz at birth is now 5 pounds, the 5 oz at birth girl is now 3 pounds. The boys were both 6 oz and they are 6 and 7 pounds now. If she is healthy and happy, you should be happy too. It is fun and interesting to see how they change. I gave three of the puppies a puppy cut, both girls have lost their black and the boys are both still black. Mom and dad are both 8 pounds now, dad was 6 before he was fixed, but I am feeding them all puppy food right now, and I think he is being a little lazy. |
