Going to the Groomers?!? I do want him to get used to going-- I found with our last little guy that they have a much better talent of trimming between the pads on his feet and and plucking the ear hairs than I ever could do... Since Sparrow had his shots yesterday he is in the free and clear to go to the groomers, but I am a bit hesitant to just up and leave my new baby. At what age did you start taking your baby in to get professionally groomed (if you do). |
4 months |
Couver went the first time when he was 8 months old. I was a nervous mommy and stayed at the groomers to be with him. I personally have chosen to groom my two myself because of the horror stories I have heard about groomers. I just don't want to risk anything happening to them, and if I can do it... I figure why not groom them myself? They are much happier with me handling them and I enjoy it :D |
I took Rhett for a "getting acquainted" visit at 4 months. |
I took Addy at 4 months. I always make an appointment with a definite time, so I can drop her off, and pick up her up right after the groomer is through, so she is not left for any lenght of time. |
He was 4 1/2 months old. :) |
The goomer doesn't give her a bath and I always have her combed when she arrives. I enjoy giving her a bath and it also saves money. |
Since my mom is a groomer I've been taking Sophia since she we got her at 12 weeks. I know it sounds a little crazy, but she's 17 weeks now and she has already taken a liking to getting a bath and everything! The younger they are when they first start going, the easier it is for the pup to adjust. I would suggest waiting till your furbaby has all necessarily puppy shots just for his safety. Find a trusting groomer and explain to them you're a little nervous, it's his first time going.. they should be very understanding!! Very often my mom lets first time parents hang around and watch their furbaby get their first bath :) |
I started grooming Holly at 9 wks when I got her and sge does fine. I visit Armani at now 8 wks and started clipping his nails and combing his coat. |
We started taking Cody at 5mths, his hair was getting out of control then and starting to mat so we knew a cut was in order. As far as I know everything went really well for him. He loved the groomer and her two huge danes, they even had another little yorkie there being groomed when I came to pick him up. We are going to go to a different groomer next time though, not that I didn't LOVE the groomer we went to but I found out (through a friend) of a groomer who has 30+ year with small breed grooming and its an all day event sort of thing. You drop them off in the morning and pick them up at 4. They are put in with other small play buddies, given a doggie breakfast, walked to the potty then ready for groom. I'd look around for some like those! They are real gems when you can find them! :p |
Zoe is 12 weeks and had her first grooming session yesterday. Her fur didn't need cutting but the groomer trimmed the hair on her feet, trimmed hair on ears so they can try to stand up,cleaned out ears, plucked hair from ears, squeezed anal gland, and besides bathing and combing her she put on a cute little red bow on my baby. I usually bathe her once a week but she is too active for me to do the rest...not that 'd know what to do. :-) |
