Interesting that continuing to insinuate that all young people WILL get rid of their dogs is fine, but standing up for those same people is a "temper".

I stand by my posts and believe they were a well thought out, articulation of my opinion- if you choose to read anger into that, that is your choice.

Ok. Well I believe the arguing needs to stop, I believe I asked for EXPERIENCE not for you all to go back and forth on the subject.

Thank you all whom actually gave your experience I really appreciate it and have the next 2 years to think on it.

On forums everyone is allowed to give their opinions weather you like it or not because that is what forums are about.

Are you a junior in high school?

I have lived in two college towns. Due to my line of work I have known many college kids who have owned dogs. Are some great? Yes. Are some horrible? Yes. But this is no different than the 40 year olds I meet.

Money issues can come at any age. I would almost be confident to say that there is a larger risk of having a money crisis as an adult than a student because you have a family, more payments, etc.

Many reasons that people give up dogs- moving, children, allergies, time can happen at any age.

I think it comes down to are you willing to do anything you can to keep your dog once you have it at any age.

The fact may not be that they are college students, but rather like any person who owns a dog that they have to give up, they haven't thought things through or an emergency happened. I would be willing to guess most of these dogs have been bought from pet stores or byb breeders on a impulse because they are cute.

I'm not saying that all college kids should own dogs, because they shouldn't. Just as there are adults that shouldn't own dogs.

It comes down to at any age- if you are responsible and willing to do what needs to be done to own a dog. Then you should own a dog, if not, then don't.

Exactly. It's totally ridiculous to state young people should not own pets.

Your temper did show in the thread...bold/capped/underlined.

I no longer do rescue but I certainly saw my fair share of younger people/adults/families give up their Yorkies more than older people (over 40).

I am not sure why you felt the need to stand up for this if you are the exception and not the rule. You should be proud of what you have done.

Yeah your right but seems like you would be able to control yourself enough to answer my op which was experience not opinion, but I can't stop you, you prove that time and time again.

And yes I am a Junior in high school.

Yes it can be done if you are willing to commit to what a dog needs and to realize that it won't always be easy.

I know me & you have. :) Nothing you've said in this thread has made me mad lol, I totally get what your saying completely! I just didn't appreciate being told as a fact that just because we're in college we can't predict our future or would need a crystal ball to know we'll keep our pets... nobody knows what the future may hold, not just college students!

And I'm sorry to the OP for going off track-- but it's bound to happen on a public forum with all these opinions flying around.

How do you know what I have experienced? What I have done in my life? How do you know I didn't have a dog in college?

Its not rude. Quite the contrary, and just because I'm new doesn't mean I can't say what it is fact. That you aren't answering my op and you have driven topics of task before (obviously) because you were back and forth with me and a few others on that topic as well. So from what I've observed I made my opinion. Never said anything about you.

Wow, thats an lol moment. Since when did this turn into something about you? It wasn't and there is no need for you to bring it up. I didn't say anything about you and your life and frankly I don't care. All I said was you can control your yourself enough to answer my original question.
And I think if you did have a dog in college you would have given me your side my now.
