Hi, we are new to this We just got our first yorkie. He is 11 mths old. I am concerned about his e isating. He acts like he is covering up his food and then pushes it to one side and then lookks at me. Do you think he likes his food or wants something else. He will eat if I hand feed him. I don't want him to be hungry. Any ideas?:animal36 |
Welcome to YT. Some yorkies are finicky eaters. Is this the same food he has always eaten? If you've changed it he may be looking for the food he is used to. It's a good idea to change food gradually. It can be hard on there tummies if you change it to quickly. |
Hello & welcome to YT! Yes they are definitely finicky. I"ve changed my girls' food about 4 or 5 times. I think we've finally settled on a food they like. I feed them Health Extension. What are you feeding him? You may need to try something else but you have to do it gradually by first 75% old food/25%new, then 50/50, then 75%new/25%old, something like that. You can also go into the Yorkie Health & Diet section that may have some other threads on your same topic that may be of some use. Good luck! Look forward to hearing more about your baby. |
Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk!!!!!:) |
It may be the food. You could gradually try to change his food. My male will eat anything. My female is very finicky (unless it is worm or grubs-those she will eat and/or roll in) but when she is not hungry or doesn't feel good, she will take her nose and try to bury her food. Like she is covering it up with dirt or something. Then she looks all around to make sure no one has seen where she buried it (surprise it still right there, silly girl). Welcome to YT. |
My Cody can be finicky. When I first got him, the only way I could get him to eat was hand feeding. I thought it was the food (but its the same he has always eaten), then I thought it was the bowl. Then I figured out that if I put a few kibbles next to his bowl he would eat them. He now eats out of the bowl. Not sure what it was other than being a picky eater. |
When he's not hungry, my middle "child" Keegan will tryto coverup his food so I just take it away. |
My female does this and a friends female does this. Some Yorkies just do this there is no reasoning for it. My friend and I have just put it towards them channeling their ancestors and they are mimicking covering up the kill as their ancestors would do. |
:welcome4: |
My female does this, she thinks she is hiding it from her 2 brothers so she can eat it later. Little does she know they go and eat it when she leaves. |
