Vinegar???? I just sprayed my bedroom carpet with a solution of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water.... toby has been potty trained for a long time now, and suddenly the smell is back... im thinking maybe the cat is marking HER territory over toby's OLD pee spots (the stuff i used before must have not worked all the way..... we couldnt smell any pee but maybe the cat could  ) anyways, vinegar isnt harmful to the animals is it???? |
I don't believe it will do any harm. |
Nah. Vinegar shoudn't hurt unless they were drinking it. It makes a great conditioner for people hair too if you can stand the smell until it dries! |
Vinegar is fine for the pets, won't hurt them-however, it didn't work for me. Louie still continued to pee even in spots where I sprayed vinegar. I went to Petco and got nature's miracle and it seems to work better than the vinegar with water. Good luck! |
I use straight vinegar in a spray bottle for the occassional accidents. Works pretty well. |
well here is the review: i do not smell the pee anymore, but i will have to wait to get my fiance's opinion (my sense of smell is almost nonexistant right now ;) ) |
I just bought the book everything to know about Yorkies. They say not to use vinegar. Because there is vinegar in dogs urine. So your little pup is probably still peeing in those spots. Here is the link to the book. It's preety good. http://www.overstock.com/?page=proframe&prod_id=1555222 Vinegar - Out of Doors From Pat Veretto, Your Guide to Frugal Living. FREE Newsletter. Sign Up Now! Vinegar's usefulness doesn't stop inside the house. Put a tablespoon of vinegar in your dog's drinking water every day and you will no longer have those brown spots in your lawn from the dog's urine. |
It isnt the dog that is peeing....... it is the cat.... is it the same for cats????? ive never heard that before.... plenty of people use vinegar and it seems to work for them oh, and i forgot ot add that now he wont even sniff the parts that i sprayed  |
Hmmm. That is what I read in the book. Maybe see if Barnes and Noble has the book. It is under the housetraining section. Here is a good website too:) http://www.justrite.com/ Q. Why should urine be treated as soon as possible? A. Left untreated, you may wind up with a difficult to remove yellow stain, or worse, a dye loss. Over time urine salts become highly alkaline, and can bleach out your primary carpet dyes, starting with the weaker red and blue, so that you are left with a yellowish or off white discoloration. At this point, your only options are to dye, or section (patch) the carpet. Even our kit, which contains highly effective stain removal ability, see testimonials cannot claim to remove stains that have become permanent, and of course a dye loss can only be corrected by re-dyeing. NOTE: Never use hot water or vinegar to treat urine stains. You will set the stain. |
lol........ ok this is the deal There is NO stain, because the stuff we used before suceeded in removing the stain but not the odor..... So...... the only thign we were left with was the odor on the carpet (which i think is wierd.... you would think that if it got out hte stain it would get rid of it completely but i guess not...... ) anyways, i think next time i go to walmart i am going to pick up natures miracle or simple solution ... which do you prefer???? like i said, stain isnt a problem..... just smell |
I haven't tried Natures miracle but it seems to work well from the website I found. The book I bought said not to use vinegar because the dog will continue to pee there. It won't take the smell out. So I would imagine thats why you still smell urine and your cat is peeing there too. Our two dogs aren't house trained and it drives me nuts. I have a3month old and an 8 month old. The older one we just got from the pound. He is ruining our house. We have had him 2 weeks and I think he went # 2 out once. Otherwise our new house is his bathroom...ugh |
Here are some suggestions for odor removal: *Baking soda mixed with water in a spray bottle OR *OdoBan from Sam's Club. That's the BEST for odor removal. You need to be careful and not let your pets on the carpet until it dries. But it kills the odor and freshens the air. I have it in the gallon and Love the stuff..it's only $10 a gallon at Sam's Club. I like NaturalsMiracle to remove the stain but not the odor..JMO I have 12 furbabies that live in the house so believe me I've tried it all..hahaha Good luck! Irene |
I use OdoBan and have for many years. It is concentrated in the gallon jug and Irene was right on-Sam's club has it. The product is enzymatic as is all of their products. I would suspect that the solution you used did NOT go thru the carpet and soak into the padding as the urine did. I cannot take the vinegar smell, but I love the OdoBan products. You can also find a stain remover and deodorizer made by the same company. Sometimes, it is in Sam's as well. If not, call the number on the side of the container ad ask for a number to contact the manufacturer..I have ordered direct for over 5 years.. |
That's funny Rini you use it too. Like me, I'm sure you've tried it all..lolol..I love how the room smells so fresh after using it. I use it on my car mats and to clean up pee spots in the kitchen if someone missed the pad..haha...whoever invented it is genius!! How much do you pay for ordering it direct? Any cheaper than going to Sam's? Just curious. Hugs, Irene |
I've heard a lot of people say that vinegar and water worked for them, but I'm pregnant and my sense of smell is soo strong-I have the nose of a hound and I could still smell pee. The only thing that worked for me was Nature's miracle. |
