Just sad..
 

I knew this day would come for months (almost a year now).. But somehow even though I thought I was prepared mentally I am not. Its time for my partner and I to leave the country for vacation, And Im afraid Miss Chloe will not remember me when I get back. The longest ive left her was a week, But this will be almost 2 months.. She will be staying with my mother, And her brother..And Ive already warned my mom I will be skype-ing (video chat) And demand to see her often to ensure shes ok...lol With a picture of that days newspaper..j/k. I just worry she may change, And not wanna come back to me when we return. I'm gonna leave a tee shirt or something of mine for her to sleep with..I guess I'm not really asking advise (Unless there is something I can do I don't know about) I'm just kinda venting cause I should be excited to leave but instead I'm counting the minutes I have with her.:(

Ps. I cant bring her with as were going to be traveling constantly through Italy for the first few weeks spending a few days here a few days there. And finally will end up At my partners families, Where were staying for a family reunion/wedding there for a few weeks.(belive me I wanted to see if it was possible, But my partner said no..lol) Otherwise I would.

I am sure she will be in excellent hands with your mother. She will probably be a bit sad, but should be fine. I would leave an unwashed t-shirt or something like that with your smell for her to sleep with, it will probably be comforting to her. :)

Aww I totally understand, France is a very dog friendly place, Italy I just don't remember if is, a friend of mine went last year, and she left her babies behind, so I know what you mean, I have not been out of the country since I got my babies, but I'm afraid that I will have to do it soon, Panama is so hot that I'm worried about them, will have to run the ac 24/7 like I do here in the summer time for them lol. Go enjoy your time, and please feel free to share some pictures:pthe kiddos will be fine:animal-pa
PS. I agree with Mojo, leave some unwashed clothes for your furbaby, and have to add they will not forget you ;)

Enjoy your trip...and like elephants, they never forget!! I visited one of my retired males once..it had been 5 yrs and he knew me.

She will be fine and not forget you. I agree thats a long time and see why you would be concerned. Just leave some unwashed clothes, maybe send over something you have worn recently every two weeks if it bothers you that much, just to refresh your scent. I'm sure your mother will take good care of her and she will have her brother to play with. Go a head and enjoy your trip.

When you get back, she'll go absolutely nuts. She won't forget you, but being a yorkie she may be a little bit mad at you for awhile. I'm sure it's hard to leave her that long though.:(

I couldnt imagine leaving my little one for 2 months.
But just think of how exciting the reunion will be!!

Thanks for the kind words, I am definitely going to leave a few tee shirts, As far as her going nuts when I get home, I hope so! Although I cant even begin to imagine what it will be like, as she acts like I abandoned her if I go Shopping now..lmao...And of course while Im shopping I'll be on the look out for Any new trendy things for yorkies (clothes, jewelry ect) And report back!.. We leave on the 11th 2 more days (my birthday) So I may not get around to logging in for a while.. So I just wanna say hope everyone has a fabulous summer!! ttyl-Chris:)

My oldest boy was only 12+ weeks when I brought him home, and I swear he remembered his breeder when we returned a year later to her to buy another dog.

Dogs do remember. When I returned home after my first semester at college, our family dog gave me a greeting that made it clear that she remembered me. I didn't think she would miss me, but she did.

oh boy that is going to be hard on you. I can assure you that dogs do not forget!!
I raised my sons Golden for 8 months and he moved to fla. I went to visit a yr after he moved and when she saw me she went nuts and when it was time for me to go she tried to get in my car. lol she wouldn't listen to my son she just wanted to go with her mommy:D

My daughter lived with me for 17 months with her yorkie and she bonded with me and I use to always say HI HI to Gidgy in a high tone. Every time she hears me talking on skype she always runs over to the computer!!

Your dog WILL NOT forget you:) but it is going to be harder on you than her I think;)

I can understand not wanting to leave...I go thru that everyday when I leave for work and I only spend 8 1/2 hours away. :rolleyes: Definitely leave a few items with your scent on it so she can have them.

I don't know if you do plan on skyping or not but it wouldn't hurt to "speak" to her. :D

Sometimes situations like this can be mixed blessings. She's going to learn to adapt to the new situation and become more confident when you're not around. It will take a little while, but the stress will be less for her the next time it happens. It will be a good learning experience for her. I think a lot of us worry about what would happen if we could no longer care for our dogs. Experiences like this will show her, and you, that she can adapt and continue to be a happy dog.

Unfortunately, I don't have any great advice for you! It will be difficult, and you'll see her shadow everywhere you go. Bring some pictures of her, and if you ever need to talk about it, you know where to go. Right here, where people understand. ;)
