question on cut the wiskers? I have always heard that your not supposed to cut a dogs wiskers? Today my boy went to the groomers and of course they cut around his face and that included the wiskers. Anyone know why or why not to cut them? Thanks :) |
I have never heard that about whiskers. When I comb my boys, their whiskers occasionally get caught in the comb and come out. Sometimes I get a yip in response. I've read here that some people pluck them. |
dogs don't need their whiskers like cats do. I trim them off to help the mustache lay flatter. On some spaniel and hunting breeds the whiskers are shaved off. |

I think there are a few breeds where they shave the whiskers for the conformation ring. I know they do for Italian Greyhounds, also the eye brows. They like a very smooth look, but it isn't a requirement. |
Forgot to mention, I do Lizzy's. |
Dogs use their whiskers for sensory perception. They help in aiding the dog in the positioning of his face in various circumstances, especially tight ones. Also, I know dogs don't see great in the dark... or at least their eyes too need to get acclimated to the dark after being in light and having whiskers could help them in low light conditions.
