Wetting the bed? Any other explanation?
 

I'm going to call the vet on Monday, but there has to be another explanation than a UTI, so I want to know if any of you have experienced this.

Loki is literally wetting the bed. When we were potty training, I would think nothing of waking up to a wet dog. We had many 4AM baths. (Part of our problem is that Loki was drinking too much water, about 3 times as much as he should have had. Now we regulate it.) Anyway, he is 11 months old and now he sleeps with us in our bed most of the time, unless he chooses his crate and then I let him sleep there. When he would sleep in his crate, I would sometimes find him wet in the morning, which made no sense because I he usually would bang on his cage or cry to tell me he needed to go out in the middle of the night. (When he sleeps with us he comes and licks me). I had assumed he was waking up, peeing, and laying back down in it.

Well, a few days ago he was sleeping literally right NEXT to my head, and he sat up and was wet. He didn't wake me up first and I thought he totally wet the bed. Not even enough to soak through the comforter. I took him right outside and he peed forever. Today, Loki and were napping together on the couch and my husband was sitting right next to us on the other couch. He said Loki didn't wake up, cry, nothing but he peed on himself and then woke up. Again it was not a lot and he went outside and peed forever. Each time this happens I've noticed he's had a lot of water. Also, we don't find spots around the house and he sleeps a lot during the day (someone is home). Until now this has only been a nighttime thing, although today we were asleep for about 3 hours and he was EXTREMELY tired.

A UTI just doesn't make sense since this is NOT new and it's random, it's just that it's finally happened while we've been RIGHT THERE and we figured out that he is not waking up at all. He is neutered and does not mark or even lift his leg when he pees. He is housebroken, although drives us crazy because he still drinks too much and has to pee every 45 mins, but at least he does it outside. Oh, and he IS crate trained and can hold it at least 3-4 hours - we don't leave him alone for longer than that. He hasn't had any accidents at all this week. And, if he ever does have an accident it is our fault. He is really good!

Any ideas? I just feel so bad for him, that's his second bath this week.

When the bed is wet, are you sure it's pee, and not his saliva or other bodily fluids? It sounds odd that he'd wet his bed, then still pee outside for a long period of time. Besides trying to limit his intake of water right before bedtime, and also letting him out to pee just before bedtime, I can't think of any other suggestions at this point.

Just keep at it and don't give up! :)

My first thought was that he was possibly licking too, but now that we've been awake to experience this twice we know he was sound asleep and not licking at all. Plus, I can smell the difference. We already limit water and sometimes even have to wake him up to take him out one last time. He only goes 7 hours which is rarely a problem and i'm always willing to let him out in the middle of the night if he wakes me, which he does sometimes. The three of us communicate very well. This is just very strange! He did not sleep well last night either - he woke up about 3 times for water but not to pee (he wouldn't even go outside, it's cold!). But this morning he is acting fine???

Tilly wet the bed twice and it was because her bladder was so full from drinking to much! so I took her in to the vet and ran tests, he had told me she either had diabetes which would cause the need to drink excessive amounts of water? or cushings disease. well the test revealed Cushings! :eek: she is currently still has been on medication for this, but your baby is pretty young to have cushings it usually affects older dogs and tilly was dianosed a 6 years old she is now going to be 11 yrs. please check with this link as it will discuss urinary problems.

Stewie marks on every bed in my house. I drench it in peroxide.

Thanks for the link. Loki has been to the vet regarding his drinking issues and had many many tests. The vet believes it is behavioral and I agree since it has improved significantly since we have been working with our trainer on it. He just loves water, ice cubes, etc. and will drink until the bowl is empty!
