aggressive yorkie puppy We recently purchased a 16-week male Yorkie puppy named Bayley. After only having him two weeks, he has totally became so attached to me that I can't even leave the room without him chasing after me. He has some severe separation issues! When my son hugs me, he goes totally crazy. Sometimes, for no apparent reason, totally unprovoked, he will go after my children barking, growling, nipping, attacking them, totally out of control. My children are older and very gentle with the dog. Has anyone ever had this experience with a yorkie that can give me some advice? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. |

Welcome to YT!!! Bayley is very young, and he want's you to be his mom. He feels very safe with you, and that is very important to Yorkies, he's in a new home and needs to feel safe. He won't want to be without you, when your children come up to you, he is telling them that you are his mom. Yorkies become very attched to their mom & dad's. It will take some time, but he will start to let you go in and out of rooms without him. I'm sure he will start to play with your children too, he just needs time to adjust to his new home and family. :) :) :) :) :) |
Yes, I have also experienced that same problem. First with Easy and then with Pepe'. Easy is completly over it now, but we have had her since July. And Pepe is doing much better - we got him in Aug. Pepe still shows some signs of attachment issues, like he cries for me if I leave him, but in a few minutes he goes on to something else. Both of them had a long trip (overseas) to get to me, so I just figured it was from that. He should so much better over time. He just needs reasurance that you will be there forever. I try to give more attention to Pepe since he craves it and I think that has helped to resure him that I am always going to be there for him. :D T. |
Bear was very attached to me but not aggresive around 6mths he started to get mean about food and his toys .For no apparent reason.Then one day I saw my daughters boyfriend teasing him like he was gonna steal his toy.He was growling and snapping.The boyfriend thought it was funny.I told him if you want to come back don't let me see you do that again.Bears meanness disappeared.He is still attached doesnt like anyone to touch me,but he tolerates it.He will whine and try to get in the middle.I think if I had not stopped the teasing it could have made him mean it was changing his whole personality. |

Maybe the children should take on some responsibility with him? Let him know you are a family and not just you and him. My oldest son is 7 and really enoys helping out with Tinkerbell, he feeds her, lets her out to potty, he even trains her a little and tells her to sit and down for treats, etc. SHe pretty much sees him as number 2 in line, if I am busy and can't hold her, she runs to him and gets in his lap. |
toby used to be really agressive about other people coming near me, we put a stop to that behavior really quick.... everytime he started to get nippy or barky he got a timeout and told "NO".... he still follows me all over the place, but since we have a small apartment he can still hear me if i move into the living room or bedroom and he is much lazier about it.... as long as he knows where i am he is ok |
Gwen my three year old is very protective of us. We usually have to put her up when company comes because she'll let the people come in and sit down, but when they get up to move she bites them on the butt. |
Welcome to YT! I have an aggressive yorkie also. She doesn't like anyone that she doesn't already know. She barks at everyone and I believe would bite. I am interested to hear the suggestions you get so that I can also try them. |
