How can I do this? Hi there, wondering if you guys have any tips on training my little guy how to tell me he needs to go out. I've read about the bell's, he'll scratch at the door but only if someone else is outside. He seems to have regressed in his potty training since his surgery. I also have a unique situation. We live in two different places. In one he has a nice little fenced backyard, in the other it's a wide open space where I don't dare unleash him. He adjusts so well to both places, just not the pottying. Is it possible to train a 6 month old to use pads when they've never done so? |
I think you can train him with the potty pads, all three of mine use them and they also go outside when I let them, just be patient, you can search on the training section side for good ideas from other member:animal-pa |
Thanks for the help. In our yard here he has mulch and straw and a fenced area. When I take him to our other home, it's just open and the grass is often tall and it's always wet with dew in the morning, not to mention the rain. I'd like to have an option when the weather is bad rather than him just peeing in my carpet! I do take him outside, he's just more interested in smelling everything than pottying. Then not 15 minutes after I bring him back in he's peed. |

I had a similar situation.. When I first got Sophia I was between living in my apartment at school and living at home with my family. My apartment was in a busy city and my house is in the suburbs with lots of grass! Sophia couldn't understand going potty outside at my apartment because I guess we only had concrete and sidewalks. Once I took her to the house she quickly learned to go potty outside. Now that I am back home living with my family she'll run to the back door and wait for someone to open it whenever she needs to go potty. Best of luck to you with potty training! |
I started asking the girls...do you have to potty? and then would take them out. In the beginning when they went outside they got a treat immediately. The entire time we were out there I would say. "potty outside". Bella is big enough to use the doggie door. But, Piper is not even 4# so i wont let her run outside alone. I say do you wanna go potty outside and she goes nuts! She starts dancing around and scratching at the door. Now sometimes she will go to the door and look at me. If i dont see her she walks to me until i look at her and then I usually know. I found one piece of advice helpful when i was training my girls. Potty time is potty time..try not to mix in play time. Let that be another adventure:D Good luck! |
