Biting???!!!!!???? This little guy is driving me crazy with all his biting!!!! What is a good way to discourage this without being mean. I have bought every chew toy on the planet and he still wants my fingers and toes:) Also he has nylabones but I took them away after reading something on here....are they not safe? |
How old is he? The best thing to do if he's nipping fingers and toes is to keep them away from his mouth to begin with. If he does nip, yelp and walk away. Keep giving him alternatives to chew on. I use nylabones, but with supervision. Actually, I only give him toys when I can watch him, just in case. BTW- I love the name Jax. That one was in the running for Rhett, too, because DH and I are big Sons of Anarchy fans. |
How funny! We are huge Sons of Anarchy fans and that is where we got the name! He just turned 13 weeks old. I try to keep them away but I can't even pet him without him biting me to death. So nylabones are okay as long as I'm watching? He loves them. |
You'll get a lot of advice on the nylabone issue. Some people love them, others hate them because they could potentially splinter off. I use the softer puppy versions (they feel more rubbery that the normal ones) and the blue dental one. I've never had any problems. Another thing Rhett loves to chew on is a sock filled with ice cubes. Some people will tell you to not do that either, because the dog may then decide that all socks belong to him. It works for me though. I also use carrots, but they are a bit messy. Bully sticks are another great item, but like all chewies, you will have to keep an eye on your boy while he is enjoying them. Avoid rawhide bones/strips. It's too easy for those to break in to pieces and cause a choking hazard. They have also been known to swell in a dogs stomach and cause obstructions. |
