Collar or harness?? Just wondering if the harness is a better idea? I use a collar right now, but feel bad when Reyna starts running and chokes herself a little. Do the harness' work well? Or is the classic collar the way to go? Thank you my fellow yorkie lovers! :aimeeyork |
Hello, fellow yorkie lover. :D A harness is the way to go. Collars can cause damage to the trachea. Also, if they are in any danger, you can pull them up in a flash - can't do that with a collar. |
I agree that the harness works better for yorkies and small breeds. Big difference:) |
I agree with the harness people. I will say that in obedience class, they want me to use a collar because "corrections" are more immediate. But for general use, a harness is the way to go. Someone posted a picture a while back that showed a harness with a leash attachment on the collar. It looked like the best of both worlds. |
I like the little vests with the harness ring on the back. Several gals on YT make them. They are not binding in any way, so our babies don't mind wearing them. I will be posting pix of Chloe's new harness vest that Shana made. (Tinkerbells Closet) Joy |
Can you post a link to where we might purchase a harnes made by a TY member? Many thanks! |
Go to YT forum....then to Products for sale or wanted. You will find them on this thread. They are wonderful!!!!!! I purchased mine from Shanatink. Joy |
Oh yes, you have to get her a harness. It's a little more work to put on but they get used to it and stand still after a while. It protects their throat a lot more. I use the buddy belts, and they also have the "clothes" harnesses... |
Another harness vote here. I use a collar for my Scottie but not on the Yorkies. |
I like the Gentle Leader Easy Walk harness for walks and training. It's not a typical harness in that it attaches in the front, which is better for leash walking. I am in the minority that I use his collar when I let Loki out to potty (no fenced yard) and I let him wear his collar w/ tags unless he is home alone for a long period of time. He is a bigger Yorkie at almost 8 pounds and has never shown any sign of trachea problems. I don't like the harness vests or traditional harnesses, and I only own one "regular" harness that I use when he is strapped in in the car. |

Harness all the way! I have several on my website including decorative ones or comfy mesh harnesses: www.tinkerbellscloset.com I only put collars on my dogs for decorational purposes. And even then they dont wear them all the time and I only put them on them when they are older and I can keep my eye on them. I have heard of too many bad things happening to pups in collars. Hope that helps :) |
sooo seems like you all love collars....hehe j/k :D ok time to go buy a harness...we'll see how she likes it :aimeeyork Thanks guys! |
I use the harness when Princess is on a lead. I was told they were much better for Yorkies. She has some really pretty collars, but they are just for show when I have her dressed up. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D |
I have heard others say that the instructor of an obedience class would not allow a harness and insisted on a collar. Well, I would tell that #*^++ that I will not endanger my dog's life by using a collar. I am paying for the lessons and I will use what is safe for my dog. END! PERIOD! |
Definitely a harness!!!! |
