Second puppy now or later???? My husband and I want another yorkie eventually someday but I got to thinking....would a new sister help baby Jax get stronger and would he do better with companionship now? Is it better to get a new dog while he is still a puppy himself or wait until he is grown? I hate leaving him alone and I wish he had a friend:) Also I feel like a another puppy would help him eat better and grow stronger faster. Is this true? He is very tiny and his new sister hopefully would not be as tiny as him. Would this be a problem? For example the new puppy I am looking at is around 2 pounds and he is a little over 1 pound. Would he get hurt? I need some advice. I want to help him, not hurt him. I feel like some friendly competition might make him thrive better.....I don't know.... |
I don't know....I considered getting a sibling for Precious right after we got her but I'm glad I didn't. I can devote all of my time to her especially while she's going through her puppy stage. I also heard or read somewhere that if you have one dog that's already established with training (potty and otherwise) and a schedule that the second pup will adjust quicker because he/she has a role model to look after. So for us, we will probably wait until next year and if we see we still want another bro/sister we will do so then. |

He is 12 weeks old today. I know, so tiny! He had one bout of hypoglycemia right after we got him but now I get up every 3-4 hours to feed him. No other issues right now thank goodness but I am scared all of the time. He is a very picky eater so I thought that maybe a new puppy would help him eat, adjust, etc.... He is alot of work now and I was hoping things would get better if he had a friend. I definitely do not want one as small as him though. Too much worry! |

I would definitely wait until he is older, & more stable. Another new dog might stress his little self out? Plus 12 weeks is when puppies are to be taken away from the mothers. I would definitely wait until he is more dependent on himself. |

I agree with everyone else... For his sake, I think it would be best to wait until he is older and more established in your home. I think adding a new puppy now would really stress him out. |
Thanks everyone. I guess you guys are right! That little girl is just sooo sweet! I think I will wait though. I know there will be one out there for me when Jax is ready:) |
Yes a good desicion.. he need to get a little stronger.. and also for yourself.. when your really busy with him at the moment and then have another puppy too thats needs alot of attention., it can stress you out too. Especially because he is so tiny , do you have him a few days now? love Priscilla |

Getting two puppies at the same time isn't recommended. Two Puppies or One? - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company! |

p.s. definitely wait until Jax is bigger and stable in his health and eating to add a little brother or sister, he needs all your attention now :) |
I waited until Armani was almost two before I got Chloe and I think that was perfect. He was independent, well adjusted, and most importantly trained. I believed this helped make her easier to train and more self assured. Plus him and I were able to get plenty of one and one time and bond before I introduced another addition. He is totally fine being left alone, being with me, or being left with her. Whereas, she has never been alone, she went from the breeders with her mom, dad, and siblings to being with Armani all the time and she gets upset if she is left alone. |
