A one nite stand! I was at Petsmart the other day and saw 2 women with an adorable tiny 9 week old poodle. Well I asked if I could pet her and she just gave kisses like crazy. I mentioned that I had 2 yorkies and I have a picture of Hot Rod in my key fob so I showed them. The woman commented..."don't have him fixed and we'll breed them and have yorkipoos". Can you believe that??!! I was shocked and just stunned. I couldn't think of anything to say other than, "oh, my 2 have been nuetered and spayed already". She didn't know me from anyone and she was okay with having them breed together. so totally NOT! Geesch! It just made me so very sad and incredibly scared for that little girl. I just hope that she wasn't serious about breeded her. :( Thanks for listening. |
So sad, and no doubt she will breed the poor girl unless someone is able to talk her out of it. Amazing and disconcerting that a complete stranger would ask you in the pet store. When I started walking Max, I had a neighbor I had never met ask excitedly if I wanted to breed my dog with hers. I told her that I was contractually prohibited from breeding and required to neuter the dog. She had never heard of such a thing. |
Its not uncommon While at the vet with my maltese an older man with hiw maltese puppy gives me his # so that we can have puppies I told him that Im not a breeder he said thats ok theres a first time for everything he was not either so I got blunt and told him his boy was going to be oversized and should be neutered he just laughed it off stupid as hell. |
Stupidity has no cure. |
I was in Petsmart with Couver when he was a puppy and not fixed yet when a lady came up to me and asked if I would breed him with her small female. I of course said no and that I was not interested. She was willing to pay me for it, but I could not imagine allowing that to happen. Couver is my pet, not a way to make money :thumbdown:thumbdown I bet this happens a lot :( |
I can add a story to this one night stand thread. ;) I had a lady bring her male dog to me at school and acted like she expected me to take hime home with me to mate with Maddie. I told her I was not letting Maddie have puppies and getting her spayed. Her reasoning was she wanted to have one of his puppies. |
There should be a law against dog pimping:( |

I'd had Tuffy just a week or so the first time someone approached us asking if we'd consider breeding. I tried to politely tell the woman that he was not what I consider show quality & therefore we wouldn't be breeding but nuetering him & she got totally upset. No way Jose! |
Wow! That is just crazy, yet so many people think there's nothing wrong with this. :( |
When I went to pick up Bella, I took Puddie along. I knew he couldn't go in, but I wanted Bella's breeder to see that I was taking good care of him. She picked him up, felt him all over, and told me it was a shame I'd already neutered him, because he was a good candidate for studding. My BABY!!!! But apparently she really liked his bone structure . I kinda thought it was funny because Bella had been sold "conditionally", too: no breeding. Not that I had intended to in the first place ... Please take the poodle owner's remarks as a sign of ignorance ... she just doesn't know any better - yet. I hope she learns before it's too late. |
I think many people have different views about breeding dogs. I think some people think that most cute and sweet dog should be breed. Hot Rod is very handsome. :luvu: Maybe next time you could share some of your knowledge about breeding. We can sometimes change peoples' viewpoints about breeding by sharing how responsible breeders breed dogs. It is scary about how irresponsible breeders think, because their behavior put dogs' health at risk, produce dogs that do not meet the breed's standard, and contribute to dogs ending up at animal shelters. |
It always amazes me how ignorant people are. Time and time again people ask me if I'm going to breed my 3 lb. little Rio. Um, absolutely NOT! And now that Rio has a baby brother, I'm sure people will ask if I plan to use him as a stud. Again, absolutely NOT! |
I just had a similar experience yesterday at the dog park. A guy with 2 (really cute and very small) mutts immediately wanted to know if my Jezebel was fixed. I told him that she had been spayed about 2 months ago. He proceeded to tell me that his male was intact, and they were looking for a small female to breed with him. I couldn't believe it. Jezebel has a wonderful temperament and she's very healthy (knock on wood), but she isn't breeding quality. And even if she were, no way am I going to open her up to that risk, and especially to breed her with something that is an unidentifiable mix. Some people. One day, there was a woman there with an adult 3.5 lb Yorkie female that she was going to use for breeding, she said that she had found a small male. When I brought up the risks, she said that her small size wasn't a problem because they had already planned on a c-section!!! Can you imagine that? Breeding a tiny and PLANNING to put her through a c-section??? Then someone else asked where she got dog, and she said that it came from Trader's Village, which is a large flea market in the Houston area. The dogs there come from puppy mills! So she was going to breed a very tiny female with a completely unknown genetic background. I feel so sorry for that tiny little Yorkie, her owner is clueless. |
Looks like everybody is wanting in on this designer doggy thing...:( |
I dont know why people think breeding is so great. I had a cat lose a whole litter of kittens except one that was enough for me |
