i think my dog is obssesed with me ! How do i get her to stop ? its like she wants to be everywhere i am, she literally sleeps on top of me, she cry's when shes not near me, i must admit its cute but at times it gets frustrating especially cause she doesn't want nobody near me, its like shes JEALOUS and she wants to attack anyone especially my boo when he kisses me or hugs me! is there away to stop this cause i hate isolating her from everyone when she acts up ! http://i46.tinypic.com/ru4qhx.jpg |
Yorkies love to love their people. They are their persons shadow, and unfortunately that makes it so that they're not the dog for everyone. I'm not saying that's the case for you. One thing you should try is training. Start with simple obedience. That will make a big difference with your little one. You have to teach them what is right and wrong, almost like a little kid. What you would consider acceptable behavior, and what isn't. My boy doesn't like having people over at my house. He occasionally growls at visitors, especially the people he doesn't know. He is so well trained, all I need is the correction I taught him and he backs off, just like that. He doesn't necessarily like it, but he knows it's not something I would allow. |
When reading breed characteristics - you will find when describing the Yorkshire Terrier - They refuse to be ignored. I've had Yorkies my whole adult life. All of them had different personalities, but the one common trait they each had was "shadowing me". I've gotten used to it over the years and have reached the point that when she is not in the same room with me, I worry that she's getting into something she shouldn't. |
Personally, I enjoy the shadowing. I find it endearing. And I get a huge kick out of coming home; dh has to literally hold Rhett back to keep him from bowling me over the second I walk in the door. Everyone should experience having someone so happy to see you! |

While I agree that yorkies are shadows and that is to be accepted, sometimes I really worry about Moses. He follows me everywhere and gets frantic if he can't get to me. I cannot even mow the grass without him LEAPING at the door each time I make a pass. Forget about working in the yard alone, I have to put him in a harness and stake him next to me. If I get out of his reach, he starts whining. I have tried everything I can think of to calm him down and distract him, but no, he has to have access to me or he goes off. Now when I leave in the morning for work, I tell him "stay" and walk out the door and he just sits and looks at me. But once I get home, I know he will be right on my heels. He's not right! |
Pann is always shadowing me, I've had to work with him not to freak out when were not together otherwise he would shriek and tear up the house, and having Artemis really helped him. But him always being there makes me happy and feel loved :p when he's not like another poster said I get worried, one day I came home and he didn't come to great me we ended up at the emergency vet at midnight. ever since I value his shadowing much more. |
my bijou has been showing some signs of anxiety too ... not just shadowing me and excitement, but IMO kind of a frantic energy surrounding my absence ... i don't like it b/c to me it indicates an unbalanced state of mind and i want her to be at peace when i'm gone.... i have started to train her by making her calm down and be peaceful before i give her anything she wants ... she has to sit and be calm before i let her out of her pen, before she can come up on the couch to lay with me, before she can eat, and before she goes outside.... i think that if i pet and reward her while she's acting that way, it will only reinforce the behavior, which i want to stop.... so i only pet her and play with her AFTER she has become calm... i just started this, so i don't know the results yet, but i'm giving it a shot!! |

My 7 month old yorkie will lay outside the bathroom door while I am in there getting ready. He won't leave for anything, and will whine until I come out. He loves me so much.:) |

Ha. Exactly how I feel. If you aren't with me, what is it your up to? |
I am glad to read this thread! My little girl is ALL over me... but only me! She acts like she is attention deprived... its never enough. My boys and my husband not so much! She is not happy just sitting on my lap, she has to have her face in mine or her butt in my face! :) At least I know this is NORMAL! :) :D |

I agree with you. Reinforcing the negative activity keeps them doing it. Calming them down is a great idea. I think it also reinforces the fact that you are the leader of the pack. Good luck with the training! |

i can feel them when my backs turn then i turn around and hrs watching my every step.. with that said i dont think so each dog has there own personalitys and this might be hers coby wants all my attention 24 -7 at bed time i cover his crate and he takes the covers off so he can peek and watch me until he goes to sleep. .. |
My little yorkie also must be beside me all the time. If she hears me and does not see me, she cries, whines and barks until I go pick her up. She will lay on the couch next to me for hours and be perfectly content. I find this to be so sweet. It feels great to know that my little "girl" loves her Mommy and wants to be near me. At this very moment.... Princess is sound asleep next to me on one side of me.... and on the other side of me..... one of my kitties is also sound asleep. |
