What a day!
Roxie had a really great day yesterday! We were invited to my parent's house for a BBQ, and seeing as it was such a gorgeous day, we couldn't see leaving Roxie cooped up in the house while we were gone. So, we packed up her outdoor ex-pen, her food, and some of her toys, and took her with us.
First we stopped at Petsmart. I love taking her there for purely selfish reasons. It always makes my heart happy to hear everyone say how cute she is. :) My parents have 2 acres of property and I wanted Roxie to be able to run free a bit. However, her recall is terrible, so we bought a 30 foot leash to allow her more freedom. She LOVED it! My nieces and nephews played fetch with her all afternoon, and really tuckered her out.
Roxie loves kids...but my 7-year-old nephew is terrified of her for some reason. It has been a really tough 8 months. He never wants to come to my house anymore because of Roxie. At one point he actually locked himself in my bathroom and wouldn't come out until Roxie was in her crate. I was thrilled that with LOTS of coaxing he actually petted her and played fetch with her a little yesterday.
It was a little awkward because Roxie's previous owner (my SIL to be) was also there. I always wonder if Roxie remembers her...it seems like she does. Roxie greets her so enthusiastically and gives her lots of kisses. Do you think she gets confused? Does she wonder if she is going to take her back "home"? It makes me a little sad.
But, the only real downside is that we had to leave when it got dark. My dad does not want Roxie in the house, and I did not want to leave her outside in the dark. There are coyotes that wander the yard there, and I didn't want Roxie to become dinner for any of them.
I know this post is sort of all over the place, but it was such a nice day out with my dog and I just wanted to share it with someone who would understand! |
