Need some advise!! Please Well, I got a call from my brother whom was needing some help. So, I brought home his 1 year 5 month old Yorkie Male (Walley). I also have a 1 year 5 month old male (Bailey) and a 9 month old female (Abby). (These boys are not brothers nor related at all). Abbey and Bailey are bother very very laid back very docile, they both are cuddlers, lovers etc, will roll over a the drop of a hat, love belly rubs etc. Walley on the other hand will NOT let you roll him over, I dont think he ever lays down... etc Now all dogs have been raised with children and other dogs. So my question is this. How can I stop this humping and snipping the two boys are doing. Baileyis the one attempting to do the humping, Walley will stand there for a moment or two, but then will snap and a small fight will start between the two males. Now Walley and Abby have done well this far, but this morning I noticed she is now trying to hump Walley too. I feel like my house has turned into a humping factory LOL.. Now I do know that it is Bailey declaring his alpha stage, but, I want to trust them together, and not have to either A. keep them seperated B. in cages, C. on leashes. Walley also started hiking his leg, spraying today :(( Bailey has never been a hiker so any advice on how to break this???? I do want to keep Walley, but not at the risk of changing Abbey and Bailey's behavior. ANy advice ???? |
I'm not an expert and i'm sure there will be some very helpful answers when people see your post. If i was in your situation and you decide you do want to keep all three, i think the first thing you will probably have to do is book them all in for spaying/neutering. hopefully that would calm things down a bit. (just thinking i will probably go back and re-read your post and see that they are all spayed/neutered anyway!) |
Thanks! Although a great idea I can not neutered Walley, if I am able to keep him it is still temporary until my brother is back on his feet. |
Are Bailey and abby neutered and spayed? if not, its a good idea to get it done. You wouldn't want any puppies. even if bailey has never tried it yet with abby he may now that there is another male in the house. Since you can't neuter Walley i suggest getting a belly band for him. it wraps around his waist and you put a sanitary pad in there to absorb the pee when he marks. this is a training tool and furniture saver. Also you can correct him when he's about to mark. clap your hands and say no, or use a squirt bottle. As for the humping, i think its just their way of working things out. bailey and abby are telling walley that this is THEIR house and they are in charge so he better stay in line. it may stop after a short while or it may get worse. hard to say. |
Awesome idea, honestly for some reason the belly bands didnt even pop into my head! Per the neutered and spayed we are planning to breed Abby and Bailey, which is why nether are fixed. I breed mastiffs for a long time, until I completely fell in love with Yorkies, and after losing both our mastiffs in the last 3 years, we finally decided to bring yorkies into our life. I will try the belly band, and as far as the humping it "appears" as of now in the last few hours it it slowly stopping. I had all three laying on the floor sleeping at noon.... YAY |
