Nobody understands:( Nobody understands how worried I am about my baby Jax. Everyone makes fun of me and says I am being over-protective. He is only 1 pound and I almost lost him one week ago to hypoglycemia. I am treating him like an infant because he is. My family thinks I am being to soft with him and being paranoid. I have been getting up every 2-3 hours to care for him. I don't want to leave him at home alone. I won't take him anywhere yet because I don't want to stress him out. I have only had him for two weeks and he is 11 1/2 weeks old and only 1 pound. Excuse me for being protective! Ugh! I wish my family could see what I saw one week ago when he was in a sugar coma, looking dead, and understand why I am so worried. I love this little guy people! Tell me, am I 'babying' him too much or is this necessary with such a teeny tiny puppy??? |
I never want to live Biggie alone! I came home one day and he was almost dead because of hypoglycemia..now I never want to leave him home alone more than a few hours..he's like 3 lbs right now though and 15 weeks. Still paranoid! Nothing wrong with loving your baby imo! |
Nooooo!!! You are absolutely doing the right thing and what is necessary for a puppy that size and that age! What non yorkie people don't understand about this breed is that they can go down hill extremely fast because of their size (as it sounds like you have already seen!) they arent the kind of breed you can pet on the head once a day and let out to be outside the whole day and if you arent watching that closely you wont know the signs that he is in trouble! You love jax and want what's best for him and if they don't understand that then screw them!! So uncool to judge someone who loves a dog this much and is willing to do whatever it takes to care for him! In my opinion it takes a special kind of person to love a yorkie...they obviously don't get it but luckily you have cyber friends who absolutely get it and stand behind you 100%!! :-) |
Ps. Jax is so lucky to have you for a mom!! |
You keep on doing exactly what you are doing for him. :) He is so very tiny and needs to be protected and treated just like an infant. You could easily have lost him and I do not blame you for one second wanting to give him the very best care possible. I cannot imagine anyone saying otherwise who knows what they are talking about. |
It's completely necessary and you sound like a GREAT mom who's well informed. |
No such thing as being too paranoid with these little ones. You need to be feeding every 2 to 3 hrs and make sure to keep him warm. |
You are a smart one. You keep on treatin that baby like you have. That is a tiny one and needs your observant and vigilant care. Ignore the ones who do not know how to take care of a wee one like that. Just smile at them and continue doing as you are doing. Good for you! |
What a perfect example of a breeder not caring about what a pet owner goes through with a puppy too tiny to leave the breeder..you are doing a good job and it is very stressful. |
Your doing the right thing. He shouldn't be alone if he is that small. I can't even imagine having such a tiny baby.:) |
We understand. You are doing a greta job with him. |
Thanks guys! This is why I love this site. I feel alot better. Maybe I am not a freak:) I am very stressed out because I am exhausted and doing everything I can to keep this baby alive and strong. I really wish I could have met Jax in a couple of months when he was bigger but there is no way I could let him go now. My mom just told me I better not have any babies or I am really going to be a worried mommy:) I think she is right...I better wait on that one. (If I survive this puppy!) Thanks again everyone for your kind words. I feel alot better. Just sad I am not at the Memorial weekend barbecue. I was too scared to take him and too scared to leave him alone. :animal36 |
My dogs range from 4lbs to 15lbs and I still rush home to see if there fine. I think your doing everything you should for your lil' baby.:D |

Lucy is a different story. She's tiny; she still chews wires; she has mild MVD and you have to constantly track what she is eating . . . not too much protein; but make sure she eats and drinks cause she is too little . . it's just different. You are doing a great job! Not everyone will understand; other yorkie owners definitely will. :animal36 |
you are just being a great mommy, he is lucky to have you |
You are being a GREAT Mommy to him. You what I learned awhile back, don't listen to people who make comments about how protective you are of your Yorkie. These little dogs depend on us to keep them safe, happy and healthy and that is the priority. If it helps, I get the same thing because I am very picky about everthing when it involves my animals - they are my kids (I do not have human babies). You are the Mommy you know what is right for you and for your Yorkie, go with it. |
You are doing the right thing!! Little ones will stress you out!! But Oh the love they give you! I stayed home with mine for 3 weeks, slept in the closet with my hand in the welping bed. I knew every move they made. Got very little sleep and thought I would not make it. I was doing this for a Breeder who let the mom retire with me. I got to keep her before her pups were due and when she went back to the breederto have her pups, she wouldnt! So she ended up having them here withme, and I got to keep 2 of the three Babys. They were so tiny and I kept Nutrical on hand. Gave it to them at the first sign of a shake. You just keep bonding with your little one. I just didnt pay attention to my friends and family who thought I was being too protective. They dont say much now, because they know I put my Yorkies first. People who have neve rexperienced a Yorkie dont understand. They are the ones missing out!!! To be loved by a Yorkie is the greatest gift ever!!! Hold and kiss and love your baby every second!!!!!!!! |

You're doing a great job! Yorkies are like babies, and unless you have one yourself, then people don't understand. I went to Las Vegas for 3 days a few weeks ago and had sooooooo much anxiety about leaving Holly, because no one knows your baby like you do :). |
I think you are being an excellent doggy parent. Your dog needs you and depends on you. You are doing what is best for your dog. I hope you can explain to them that a tiny puppy is like a preemie infant. If they cannot understand your situation well it is too bad for them. It is always best to be a doting owner than a neglectful owner. Just remind them that you have a loving heart towards animals. Who can hate on that? |

No way are you being overprotective! I'd be the same way. He's just a baby and he's been through the wringer. My Charlie is 5 months old and he's big ... I'm guessing about 8.5 pounds now. I hate leaving him. Usually my dad is here but he's on vacation for the past 3 weeks so I've had to leave him alone for a couple of hours at different times. I hate it. I even cut my date (with the love of my life) short the other night. I insisted we go out early before it got crowded, and then he wanted to stay out and I said no, I have to get home to Charlie (mind you, I have 4 kids, too!) I did invite him here but he had to work the next day and didn't feel like driving all the way to my house. Last night we had a REALLY bad thunderstorm. Two of the kids were in bed with me and so was Charlie. He was really nervous. But he quited down as soon as he was snuggled next to one of the kids. Back to your topic: You are a GREAT mom. Keep him as safe and healthy as you can. It's not worth the chance. |
You're doing a awesome job. Yorkies are like babies, and people dont understand unless they have one themself. |
You're doing a wonderful job with your wee one! We don't all agree all the time on YT topics but one thing remains constant and true and that truth is everyone here understands the love for our yorkies. Keep up the good work ;)!!! |
It's basically useless to argue or try to convince. Yorkies are MAGIC, and until one owns their own, they really can't understand. Just let the naysaying stuff bounce off you, and then come here for solace. There's no place like.... YT! :D |

I agree with your above statement. We have a community that understands and loves this breed. We are here to help each other out. :) |
I'm so sorry you're going through this stressful situation. The breeder never should have let the pup go so early. I think you have look at it as if he is a premature baby. Premmies always need special attention. I pray he will continue to grow and do well. You are being a great Mom to him. You want him to live, get stronger and to do well. I'm sorry some people don't understand that. Keep up the good work. :) |
I have three girls, and I don't like to leave them alone at home:rolleyes:, I have separation anxiety lol, just do what you think is best for your pup, you can always come here and vent, we understand, just ignore the rude comments is not worth a penny :aimeeyork Hugs |
