Eye tears? For the last month or so, Stomper not only gets eye boogers but also they drip with some liquid. Are those the eye tears I hear small dogs get? Is there anything you can do about it? My friend who has a small dog said it is normal and that he is fine. I have to clean them daily now. Is this normal? Should I worry? Please advise. |
Just had Bella at the vet yesterday... Bella's face is ALWAYS wet... not eye snot... but drippy wet... anyway..... she has blocked tear ducts. Dr. Gill said that she will probably outgrow it but will check it out when Bella is a bit more cooperative (when she is spayed in Dec). So for now she told me to wash her face every night with a cloth well so that the constant wetness doesn't cause her fur to smell and get "icky"! I have found that if I put Ice on Ice on my finger and saturate the fur on her face that is usually wet with the Ice on Ice... it doesn't smell....just stays wet. It is very frustrating... I give her a bath once a week and her face is dry for about 10 minutes... then back to the drippy face look! I love her anyway..... drippy face and all! :animal36 |
Thanks for the advice. I'm taking Stomper to the vets today. Perhaps, they will be able to tell me what is wrong with him. |
Your vet can use the same dye that is used in the eye to check for corneal problems. They put the dye in flush it a bit. Turn off the lights and check with a special blue light to see if there is any dye in the nostrils. If not, the naso-lacrimal ducts (they drain the excess lubricant from the eye into the nostril) are either clogged or not open. I have my dogs ducts flushed when they go for their first dentals as a routine.. It is a common problem with these toy breeds.... |
Well my dog had the same problem and I took her to the Vet - The Vet said that yorkies tend to get hair in their eyes and to trim them alot - so I do that about every 2 weeks. It has helped my yorkie - but it's just a suggestion. Hope it helps - Katie |
