integrating my yorkie with a new puppy Hello all I have a 5 year old yorkie that has been the queen of the roost for the entire time getting all of the attention from my family and I. We recently got a new puppy and she has turned into a recluse and does not interact with us or the new dog. We have to remove the puppy completely in order for her to act somewhat normal..PLEASE HELP!!!!! Any ideas? |
I brought home a rescue pup, when my girl was 4, and had some problems, like you are discussing. It took some time for the two to interact, but eventually they started playing with each other, etc. There are probably other members on YT that can give you some advice on this situation, but just wanted to let you know that I can relate. Good luck and I feel certain things will get better. Also, wanted to say Welcome to YorkieTalk! |
Time. And don't force the issue. Eventually she'll understand that she's isolating herself from everyone and everything. Does she like to play fetch? Throw the ball. I have a special call for Puppy Treats!!!! - no one sulks when that happens. Even if they're outside, in they come. It may help to put the pup in a pen for a while and pay special attention to Her Majesty, to show she hasn't been forgotten. She'll come around ... |
