okay so today is the day that Ralphie decided to eat his disposable pee pad. i ordered washables from Ryan, and apparently not a moment too soon!! but, in the meantime, is there anything I should be doing for Ralphie in the meantime? He has the yellow pukes happening now...which I hope is consequence enough, but what I am really asking is if this could hurt him??

i would say a 2" square is gone, the rest is torn up. are there chemicals in these pads that would be a problem? he ingested the blue backing, should I be concerned about that?

he eats everything. we were playing crib the other night and didn't realize we droped a card...he ended up chewing up the card, ripped off half and ate it.

and the wood at the bottom of our dining room chairs has chunks missing now too.

however, he is completely uninterested in his chew toys, ropes, kong, balls, squeakers and puppy tires...those are all safe!!

he is lucky he is so cute!!

Hold on! I'll get someone else who can answer better than I. I wouldn't really think that little bit would hurt, but...

A quick call to the vet won't hurt. I don't know what chemicals it would have so maybe having the box of pads in hand would be beneficial.

I would watch for signs of a blockage but everything will probably be fine... Armani ate and then puked or pooped many a pads in his puppyhood :p

That's quite an appetite that Armani has.:D

there is some absorbent stuff in those. i would keep an eye on him as my dex ate a shipping peanut once and he was really sick for a day as some have petroleum in them i found out :( . Keep us posted. Have you tried bitter apple on your furniture that might help to keep him from chewing that as do not want splinters of wood in the intestines.

thanks, dwerten, I will try that. really what I am learning with Ralphie is that its a lack of supervision; I am used to my Billie (who i got as a 5 year old) having no interest in everything that Ralphie gets into. I am being far more vigilant with him, the pee pad thing is new for us, he has had them in his expen for months, today was just the day he decided to give it his all.

I spoke to the vet (we are on a first name basis since the nightmare we have gone through in the last while with Billie being diagnosed with lymphangiectasia) and I am going to post the info in case it can help someone else down the road:

the concern is blockage, if Ralphie drinks water and vomits it all, then we have a blockage and need to get him in to the vet. if he is partially blocked, then he needs small meals high in fibre. the vet feels this should be something he should be able to pass, the concern is not so much the stuffing of the pad, but the plastic part.

the advice I got is to feed him a very sloppy meal - to soak his kibble to the texture of oatmeal, and then to add some water and canned pumpkin. if he eats it and doesn't vomit, then he is likely passing it fine. sometimes, it can take a few days for a blockage to create so I have to watch him for a few days. canned pumpkin is super high in fibre, but is a basic staple so it won't change the flavour of his food too much and he is likely to eat it (its Ralphie, though, so flavour is not a concern - he is likely to eat anything).

if I feed him this tonight, and he doesn't vomit it tonight, and then has diarrhea tomorrow then its most likely that he is passing it and just fine. the vet said its amazing what a dog can eat and pass, that they are scavengers by nature, and lots of dogs have eaten a lot worse. the concern is if he ingested more plastic than what I think. we'll see how he does tonight especially, but also over the next few days.

and, of course, as of now, my little guy no longer has disposable pee pads in his ex pen.
