Yorkie Clothes/Hair I never thought I would put sweaters on a dog until I got my first yorkie the beginning of last year. This past winter was very cold and she needed sweaters/coats to keep her warm. I've just purchased another yorkie to keep my first one company and am trying to control giardia and ringworm that she has spread throughout the household (three other dogs and three people). I tried putting t-shirts on them to keep the spores down to a minimum and make it easier for me to pick up (instead of wearing gloves all the time---very contagious). The problem is that my older yorkie has long hair and becomes matted like crazy. She has very sensitive skin and hates to be combed anyways. Is this normal? Am I going to have to give her a puppy cut when it's time for sweaters again? Any suggestions? And another question...why do we love these dogs so much? I've had other dogs, but yorkies are different. My first yorkie is my empty-nest baby and she is spoiled rotten. We can't wait to spoil the second one (she is quarantined from ringworm)! My husband and I love them to death!!! |

My yorkie has thin silky hair so no pro with her but my maltese is a constant battle. A few weeks ago I dress her up and when I took her dress off it was a mess of matts. I'm brushing her constantly but she still has lots of matts. I don't want to shave her but if I have too I will. But she is loving the brushing time :D |

so sorry to hear about the ringworm. yes, it is very contagious. Have you tried using a detangler? I started using it on my boy as his hair is thin and he tolrates being brushed or combed out. With the petsilk detangler, his coat was great for awhile. I got my petsilk detangler from yt member mimimomo. She has a website that you can order from. and yes, my 2 are spoiled rotten as well. lol best of luck with getting the ringworm and giardia under control, so like you have your hands full. |

Yorkie Clothes/Hair Thanks for the advice. Will the detangler help her not get tangles under her shirts/sweaters? I use conditioner and detangler on her after her baths, but because she has very sensitive skin and hates baths and combs, she cries and jumps around when I comb her. It's just aweful. I can just say 'comb' and she runs...and I do this every day (since I've gotten her at 8 weeks DOB 12/31/08) to keep her from getting tangles. My new baby yorkie (DOB 1/23/10) doesn't seem to mind being combed, but hates when you touch or comb her rear-end. Both are very opposite (just like my two grown boys)! Right now, they are getting a medicated/anti-fungal bath every other day to help wash away the ringworm spores. |

Hair 1 Attachment(s) She has silky type hair. She just mats so bad when I put clothes on her. I hate to give her a puppy cut because she just looks so regal with long hair, but I don't want to stress my poor little baby. I had to cut the big mats out so she is kinda thin on the chest. |

"Babyyorkie" your little girl is sooooo cute! |

Yorkie Clothes/Hair 1 Attachment(s) Thanks. Ally is my empty-nest baby and is spoiled rotten and is a mommy's girl. If I can get this clothes thing down I will be happy. I can't wait to spoil Tiny Tia. Daddy wants her to be his, but I'm thinking she'll go my way too since I spend all day with both of them! I love looking at everyone's Album. You guys have such cute and adorable babies!!!! Thanks for sharing. |
