Pee pad aim Ok, so my little ones are litter box trained (it gets to be -40 here in the winter). They use cat litter and don't play with it or eat it, so it is fine. The only problem is that my male often stands in the litter box and pees...but lifts his leg and it sprays out.
To FIX this I put pee pads under the litter box to catch any spray - which worked well until he realized that pee pads are for peeing on! Now he knows he can just walk up to the pee pad and go on that instead without even going in the litter box. This would still be fine with me except that he misses often - I find urine half on and half off the pee pads ALL THE TIME. It is starting to drive me crazy but I'm not sure how to fix this situation.
I've seen fire hydrants used just on a pee pad to fix the problem. So I took an upside down yogurt container just on a pee pad which worked well for him - he liked to pee against it. BUT then my female was upset/confused because she uses the litter box and likes it better than just the pee pads.
If this wasn't enough, my female refuses to use the litter box if there is even one poop in there - I clean it as soon as I see it, but when I am gone for the day she often finds her own place to go since I'm not there to clean up the poop.
HELP what do I do? My dogs are both over a year old and should be potty trained by now! We don't have a fenced yard and they run away if not on a leash so I can't let them go outside. (they don't wear collars so I would have to re-harness them every time I put them outside.) |
