Memorials & Urns Okay, I know this thread might make some people uncomfortable, but I am just one of those people who has to plan, before something happens, as it is too painful to wait until after the fact. About four and a half years ago one of my dogs was diagnosed with lymphoma and lost her battle with it two years later. When she was first diagnosed, I started checking out pet crematories and found one I liked, then I started looking for urns. I actually purchased a surplus of urns as I kept finding cloisionne urns I liked. But I do look at them if a website I am at offers them. Today, while looking at pet carriers, I found this memorial A Special Place Garden Arts & Crafts Pet Memorial And Urn which they have in a yorkie and they have a smaller one in a yorkie too, as well as a greyhound one, IGs being my other breed, not that I breed. I was just wondering what other people might do. And if they know of other places that offer nice urns and memorials. |
I have a lady that makes my urns for my yorkies. She is FANTASTIC! Yvonne Bodoni is the artist and she uses clay and paints them. She made my corgi urn with his name on a collar and he has a halo and angel wings. I don't bury my dogs anymore as I want them with me if I were to ever move. I can get a website at another time. Yvonne Bodoni is a well know artist within the dog show community! Her pieces are great! She not only scuplts yorkies but other breeds as well. Donna |

I wouln't want to bury mine either :( I'm a planner myself but it's way to early for planning even if I know you never know what comes next. Thanks for the website, there beautiful :) |
There is a crenatorium in my area that offers some beautiful urns. However, I also like the idea of taking some of the ashes and having them made into a diamond. When the time comes (hopefully many many years from now) I think I may do the diamond thing and have a pretty urn. |
My husband makes beautiful urns. He started making them when his mom passed. We had our precious Cody cremated and he made a beautiful for him. I can post pictures if anyone would be interested. |
We have always just ordered one from the crematorium. I can't bring myself to plan ahead for this, so it is easy to just let them do it all at once- we let the vet take care of those details. |

I have a beautiful urn. I bought it for my smallest guy he was 2 1/2 pounds and it ended up being very large so when my little guy passed 3 months ago, the boys were inseperable in life and I put them both in the same urn so they could be together always, I thik they would have wanted it that way. It is an octagon shape and the lid has an angel laying her head on crossed arms on top of the urn, mourning/protecting them. Because it is octagon shape I was able to also put a plaque for each boy on it as well. It is beautiful. |
Thanks, Kristan, for starting this thread. We have a beautiful tree planted beside the spot where we buried our first Yorkie, Jolie, but my husband has always regretted it. We will move someday from our home. We now have three little green tins on our dresser. My husband was waiting (very, very patiently) to get something to place the remains of our three that we raised as a family together. I'm not unhappy with the three little tins, but someday when he is able to cope with the pain of Ashley's death, I think he'll want to find something either for them separately or together. I think the ideas shared here should help a lot of people. |

I think it is also a good idea to state in your will what you want done with the urns when you pass, and name a trustworthy person to carry out your wishes. |

Memorials and Urns I just was browsing around and happened to bump into this forum. As the aging Yorkie owner this topic is very close to my heart and I just want to share where I am going to look when it is time.... . We have a friend, a wonderful artist, who creates very beautiful Dog Memorial Urns. Just recently he came out with a new design featuring a curled-up Yorkie with little angel wings. I know the feeling, even though my furbaby is gonna be one year old next week, I've already been looking at urns and whatnot (as morbid as that sounds X_x) for the hopefully very distant future. I was thinking to have a regular urn and then a pendant urn that I could wear as a necklace and keep close to me. There was lots of real pretty ones on Amazon and Ebay. Most are either basically vial pendants or "locket" pendants that carry a tiny urn tube. |
I know this is a personal thing, but I'll have plenty of memories without having an urn or memorial to look at when the time comes, and I have some excellent photos of him on the wall. I know he'll be cremated and I'll scatter his ashes in his favorite spots. I won't keep any in an urn or otherwise. |
Urns We had our 1 st Yorkie cremated by a local funeral home. I thought I had it all planned, but was very disappointed with the urn, time it took and the price. It was way too much to pay for 7 lb. Yorkie. They said they do pets one at a time, but when I got Titan's ashes back it seemed there was way too much remains. The urn was ugly, you had to take it apart to insert a picture. I got creative and added Titan's own little touch to it. Now it's sweet and I talk to him everyday. Miss my baby terribly |
Memorials & Urns I just got curious and contacted my friend at Timberland Urns to see what services he can offer, since they create memorial (I do not like the word "cremation") urns specifically for the Yorkies. Turns out they can ship anywhere, including a veterinarian of your choice and even personalize it. Here is a picture of his work.....I hope I got it attached View |
