I feel like a newbie with all these questions lately.... Okay a couple more please. 1. Is it normal for the female to climb up on the male and nip at his ears in play? She doesn't seem to be mean on purpose she acts more like she's playing rough, he'll tell her to stop if he's sick of it by yelping or something won't he? Should I allow her to play rough and nip at him on his ears or stop her? 2. He's very tired and always laying around and sleeping. He's only one day older than Sadie, he's 11 months old and he's not energetic. He's on clavamox, tritop, and promeris for demodex, and dermatitis. When he first came home he played a lot more and lately he's just very tired. He's whiney at night but seems to be sleeping through most of the night. Sadie is up a lot more than he is playing and browsing the house. Is he okay or should I ask the vet tomorrow at work? Do you think he's just adjusting to all his major changes and catching up on sleep? I'm a bit worried and don't know if he's feeling badly or just normal for an 11 m old Silky terrier that's been through 3 other families. Thanks again guys. |
My 11 month maltese used to be super hyper and now she prefers to relax. And get's super mad when brother and sis wanna play. |
Sounds like she's trying to play with him. Just don't let it get too rough. The sleeping is probably because of all of the medication in his system right now. I would mention it to the vet if I was concerned. |
2 of mine play like that. The noises they make sound like they are killing each other. I would think the meds and changes he has gone through may make him more tired. I would ask the vet tomorrow just to be sure. |
I bring Jackson over my dads house often, where he has a female dog and a male dog. They can play pretty rough. There's a lot of barking/growling noises, Buddy (dads dog) will nip at the other dogs butts/tails when running, standing on hind legs like bears wrestling, sometimes Jackson's ears are all wet when they're finished because of Buddy chewing on his ears, LOL! It can sometimes look pretty rough, but they're pretty good at giving even other calming signals and giving the other dogs warning when they DON'T wanna play. It's really funny to see them communicate. If Jackson wants to play (he loves Buddy specifically) he will roll over on his back, and make these "Arrggghh" whining noises, egging Buddy on, and if Buddy ignores him, he will stop. If there's a lot of yelping, obviously stop it. But sometimes Jackson will yelp, but if it's only one little yelp, it's fine, and then the other dogs stop. |
Did the rescue have complete bloodwork done on Bentley? A bile acids test? Did you get copies of all his veterinary records? He was just neutered, right? Between that and adjusting to another new home, he may be tired from physical and mental stress. Sadie is just trying to get him to play. Not to worry. |

thanks for the help. now i'm less concerned and just letting him rest and relax and enjoy a slower paced life. |
My two boys are much more mellow than my girl, the one boy has more energy but is still more mellow than my fiesty girl. It sounds like she is playing which is great but just watch and you feel it gets out of hand just break it up. I also think its probably the meds too, I would ask the vet too if you are still unsure... best of luck and congrats on your Bentley!:D |
