My First Try at Grooming!!! 4 Attachment(s) I tried my hand at grooming Chloe myself for the first time tonight. I have to admit that I'm actually surprised at how well it turned out. I will probably still take her to the groomer's to have her nails, feet, and bum trimmed because I'm not quite that brave. But, even though I like our groomer a lot, I don't trust myself to be able to explain what I want Chloe to look like and I'm terrified of her getting cut too short. So I just bought a pair of stylist's scissors and went to work! Chloe was amazingly well-behaved for me, although she kept wanting to sit down which made it hard to do her rear end! You did a great job!! : ) I started grooming my own too because I always got mad when they never did what I said, and because with 3 it got so expensive! Anyway, she looks so pretty! You should be very proud of yourself. |

Thanks so much for all the kind words!!! It's crazy how much a little bit of a hair cut can change their looks SOOO much. My mom said the before picture of Chloe's face up close looks kinda like Ronnie Dunn from Brooks & Dunn...she's totally right!! Quote:
It actually wasn't hard at all! Especially because she sat pretty good for me. I don't think I could have shaved her (clippers are difficult for me to use), but fortunately I still wanted to keep her longish. So I would just pick up a bit of hair between the first two fingers of my left hand, find the length I wanted, and then snip along the line! My fingers also made a good guide to keep me from possibly snipping skin instead of just hair. I was careful to cut only a little off at a time so I didn't accidentally go overboard with it. I figured I could always take off more length, but there was no putting it back on!! -C |

Oh wow, your first time you did a wonderful job, I think you can do the rest too, just trim around the paws, with a small round tip scissor under it, just be very careful and patient, or you can use the electrical trimmer , get the styptic powder for the nails if bleed, the best time is after the bath when they are soft, do it little by little, or you can filed them ( or do both), sally beauty has very good strong files, the bum is not that hard, I use the small round scissor as well, you can do it:D:thumbup: |

Hey! I've actually had to trim Lexi's butt hairs because her poo kept getting stuck. I usually just make her stand, and hold her lower half up so that she doesn't sit and slowly trim till its neat. For some reason that always works out for me. I'm actually going to start trying to groom her myself. As for nails, i'm going to try be brave and ask a friend to help me out a couple times till i'm comfortable doing it on my own. |

Chloe looks great! I love the length and it's all so even. I've been grooming Lizzie, but I take the chicken way out and let it all grow and just trim the ends. I have this little Conair dog clipper that I got at Target that I use on her feet, face and around her little butt. I've been thinking of maybe giving her a longish puppy cut, you may have given me the inspiration to try it. Chloe looks so cute with her new cut. |
