"Will nots" on the bum......!! Does anyone else have to deal with their Yorkie getting poop stuck to their bums? Lizzie has had to have an emergency bath several times since I brought her home. I figure the way it happens is a tiny bit sticks to her and then the next time she poops it 'bungs' up against the little dried up piece. I have trimmed her back there - but I don't want to take off too much......I know when this happens because Lizzie starts the 'chase the tail' dance! Is this a typical occurance?!! This is a rare thing to happen to Mr.Darcy, maybe because they have totally different fur???? By the way, we call them 'will nots' - because the little pieces will not come off! |
I had the same problem with Precious while she was on canned food. I switched her to Halo dog food and in 2 weeks she's only had to have one emergency bath. |
OMG!!!!!! YES,YES,YES!!! this morning to be exact...and I was gagging while getting her cleaned up and came real close to losing it if u know what I mean...... Im so tired of this matter of fact she gets it everywhere when this happens!!! This morn was my bed!!!UGH! Wish someone would help me w this too! I keep her in a long coat and I dnt want to cut it back there.....my other baby has shorter hair and I have to shave back there to prevent her doing it also....which she use too! |
It sounds to me like 2 things are going on with the poop problem. First their poop should be very firm and hard. Second their tail area should be kept pretty short whether or not they are in full coat. I have 3 and they all have different length and even types of coats and we never have poop problems. To tell you the truth I have not ever had to give an emergency bath. What are you feeding? That might be your very first problem. Even if its a good quality food there might be an allergy to an ingredient causing the poop not to be firm enough. |

Yup. Jackson has never had this problem... well, he did once when he was having tummy issues and got major diarrhea but that was it. Jackson also has a full tail, which is kept long, but I keep the bum area shaved/trimmed up. |
My Teddy has this. Every morning when he comes in from the garden I give him a wash and brush up and check his bottom. There is usually a bit of hard poo there so I get it off with damp cotton wool. If that doesn't work I cut it off. He hates having a dirty bottom. |
I keep my pups with a short cut around their back ends. Baby wipes have come in handy, too. |
Thenk you Rehtts Mama. I used to use babywipes and thought they were very useful but my vet said the moisturising content could block the anus gland, so I stopped using them as Ted has to have his anus gland emptied from time to time. |
I agree with the above posters that advised on finding the right food. With my last two Yorkies and my current 14-year old Maltese, I was never particular about what kind of food they got. I was constantly having to clean their bums and give emergency baths. Since I got Jezebel, the food routine and they type of food has completely changed. Only super premium kibble and raw, and treats are high-quality and rare. In the last 6 months since I got Jezebel, I have not have to clean a bum or give an emergency bath. Not once, for either the puppy or the 14-year old. And I don't trim the hair around their bums extra short at all. Not long ago, my dh wanted to give a "treat" off of his dinner plate to the puppy. All I had to do was ask him ... "do you remember the last time you had to clean a poopy butt? You haven't had to do that since before we got Jezebel." I could see that it was like a light bulb went off in his head when I pointed that out. Just see if you can find food that agrees with your pup better. |
If you keep the hair short around the butt you wont have that problem |
Yup.. it happens here once in awhile too. Not too often, but I keep the bum area pretty short. I feed taste of the wild food which is a premium food, but the one treat they love and I tried all kinds is milk bones. Just plain ol' milk bones. They love them. They usually only get 1 when I leave the house ... they don't have much issues with soft stools, so the hard ones get stuck there sometimes too. I know when it happens because my Dex will booty scoot on the carpet or chase the tail type dance too! LOL |
