Local Petland Going Out of Business
 
I found out this weekend that our local Petland is going out of business. I would often visit and ask to pet the puppies, but have never spent a penny there.

So today I stopped by because I heard they were going out of business. I asked why they were closing shop and the girl said "For the past 6 months, we have become a petting zoo and no one is buying anything." I secretly celebrated and am so excited that one less pet store that buys from puppy mills is open.

I could not be happier :)

I would be happier, but I doubt if much is changing. Many millers are selling to puppy brokers who sell off the web, and some USDA breeders have their own websites, people seem to understand you shouldn't buy from a pet store, but they don't understand you shouldn't buy from a website. Unless you personally inspect where the dogs are being raised you are condoning the suffering of millions of dogs. I hope everyone encourages others not to buy from anyone without seeing how the dogs are being raised.

That's good new's. Our petland is pretty good They do pet adoptions Free spay & neuter & cheap shots.

Petland is Petland. :thumbdown I'm sorry but that is the cover they like to present to the public. All pet shops purchase from puppymills. Didn't you watch the Animal Planet special the other day on Petland?

Nancy, thats a valid point. Although I am excited for those who still don't know better that one more pet store will be out of the puppy mill biz:thumbup:

Yes, there's still a long way to go in shutting down puppy mills, but one less is one less! Hurray!

They do not have any Puppies. :confused: They have the North shore animal League Come with the truck For adoptions.

Yep petland. We actually don't have any petlands here that sell puppies, I think there are only a couple in jersey that do.

Are you sure it's Petland? Even if that particular store doesn't sell puppies, I'd still stay away. The message needs to be sent that no Petland is welcome since Petland (regardless of what they sell) is the biggest buyer of mill dogs.

I'm 100% sure. We have several all support adoptions & spay & neutering. As long as they do that i will support them.

That is very unfortunate that you feel that way. :( I personally will continue to educate regarding Petland, puppy mills and will never shop or promote anything to do with the perpetuation of the suffering in this country. All Petland's do not sell puppies but they are all associated with this HORRIBLE company as well as the Hunte Corporation. All you have to do is look at the HSUA or google Petland and Puppy mills or Hunte Corporation to see.

Could it be Petland Discounts that you're thinking of? Petland Discounts - Store Locator

That's a different company from the Petland that sells puppies.

Here is the website for the Petland that sells puppies Find Petland Stores :: Pets Make Life Better! and it doesn't look like there are any in NJ. However, they do say they do adoptions, although I am incredulous and don't know a rescue or human organization that would associate themselves with this Petland.
