Help!!!! I need some help i do not know what to do. I bought my second yorkie 2 years ago. When i first got him he he was perfect, he had a long silky coat, and he looked so cute. But as he as gotten older the texture of his hair has changed. Its so dry and bushy and he mats all the time. I do not know what do to, he mats daily and i have no choice but to keep him cut short. I saw both of his parents when i bought him and they both had silky coats. His coat attracts everything and it always has things stuck in it, he is like walking velcro. My first yorkie has a silky coat and never mats, but baxter will mat even if you brush him every day. Please can someone tell me what happened to him, is there anyway to get his hair to go back to the way it was. I've tried shampoo and changing his food, but i do not know what else to do. Thank |
Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, but I'll bump this up so maybe someone else can help. |
I'm no expert, but I've seen Yorkies with both silky coats and Yorkies that look like Poodles. I would say try some different shampoos with conditioners, and you might try fish oil (orally, not on his coat). You might also try some different brushes. My little guy FINALLY likes to be brushed, and he had to get clipped the last trip to the groomers from the matting. I brush him a lot more now. A visit to the vet might also be in order to check for skin conditions. |
What kind of shampoo are you using on him? How often are you bathing him? |
I recently switched to eqyss shampoo and conditioner and although Madison is a silky coat we go to the park daily and she romps and plays and since switching to eqyss I can get away with everyother day brushing. her coat stays so slik now. No mats. Maybe try that shampoo and conditioner and see if it helps your baby. what kind of food do you feed? what shampoo are you using? how often do you bathe your dog? |
what type of shampoo and conditioner are you using? human or dog product? also what type of food are you feeding? |
I'm not an expert, but here's what worked for me. My Muffin seems to have a different type of coat than my other one. I started putting "Royal Coat Express" by Ark Naturals over their food (kibble dinner). It's pure fish oil & borage oil and helps with dry coats. It has really made a difference in her coat. Maybe yours just needs some extra nutrients. You can get it from your Vet. |
thanks everyone, i'm just confused because the texture of his coat changed, ill try the fish oil |
