Lightning Bugs Our first lightning bugs of the year were out last night. I went with Kacee, as usual, into her yard and a lightning bug flashed in the grass right in front of her and she jumped straight up into the air!:D I looked and didn't see the same one there again and she turned around and walked the other way and another one flashed and she jumped straight up into the air again!:D That bug stayed there and I pointed to it and said to her that it was just a lightning bug and after that she was ok with them, but it was so funny to see her jump straight up in the air like that. Anymore stories out there about bugs and critters yours have encountered? |
Oh, thats a cute story. Bonnie would probably try to eat it:rolleyes: |
I live in a 2 1/2 story old farmhouse that I am currently remodeling. I get field mice in the spring and fall. My 3 1/2 pound pet girl goes absolutely nutty for them. Last night I was on here reading and all of the sudden she bolted and ran right into the bottom of the stove. She banged her head, yelped, then proceeded to growl and try to bury her head under the stove. She continued to do this in a line from the stove around half the kitchen following the mouses path. Each time banging her head, yelping, then growling. Well this morning we go outside to potty and she runs to the edge of the yard and does the growling again. All of the sudden she jumps about 10 feet in the air and runs behind me yapping. Low and behold out comes a chipmunk and it runs right by us. She kept yapping but would not come out from behind me...:yelrotflm |
Too cute :p Pebbles is a lightening bug eater. She catches them in the air and chomp. Last year she caught one and the glow was stuck to the tip of her nose. :D |
Then there is the squirrel that all three chase up our tree and bark at as it runs up and down the truck and branches. He gets close and them back up the tree he goes. It is too funny to watch. Then the other day he brought back his girlfriend and they were running back and forth across the wood fence. One would run to the left, the other to the right and then meet in the middle. Back and forth they went poor Doodlebug just about lost it he didn't know which way to chase them. :D Those squirrels are kinda tricky like that. |
You both had me howling here! Kacee had enough and left the room. I guess I was disturbing her peace.:D |
Hahaha! Jackson loves to chase bugs! He saw lightening bugs for the 1st time last year and he gets down in a crouch/bow position and then POUNCES and goes after them, hahaha. It's too funny. I have a video of him chasing butterflies on my youtube link somewhere! Oh, and just like Doodlebug ^^ squirrels! Oh my gosh, he goes nuts for squirrels! He chases them like crazy. |
How wonderful to still have lightening bugs! :) I envy you. I haven't seen one here in Austin since the early 90's. I think some cities sprayed so much in the past for mosquitos that they killed off the nice bugs. |
Karen just now seen this, Kacee you are so cute:p |

Toads! For some reason the only dog around hear that really notices the toads that turn up on our patio quite frequently during the summer is the lowrider - - Lizzie. She gives them a wide, wide berth. Why is it Lizzie "sees" things my little sighthounds are blind to? |
